I was trying out several credit unions to see which one I liked most. One of these was velocity. Initially, I was very impressed with them. There are no fees on accounts, which is a big plus for me. And with ATMs, they will sometimes waive the fees at other credit unions. So that was very nice. Ultimately, however, the shortage of velocity branches near my home was a deal breaker. So I opted for a credit union that was closer to home. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about Velocity. My experience with them was nothing but positive.
I opened a checking and savings account several years ago. Last year, while in the process of buying my house, I received a large out of state check for my down payment. My closing was in a few days and because the check was from out of town, they weren't going to release the funds until well past my closing date. After calling the bank and getting a manager on the phone, I explained my situation and she was so helpful. She agreed to call the out of state bank first thing the next morning, verify the funds, and release the check. This customer service saved the day for me. In addition, I love calling a local number when I need help with something.
Excellent credit union. Have had an account there for years; my dad had one there from working at the city. No fees on accounts, checking card is solid and even though there are few Velocity ATMs, they waive the fee at many credit unions. They also manage my dad's retirement, with an easy to use online system in which he can choose his ways to invest his assets. Only thing I would like is for more customization of accounts, such as photo debit cards and such. Hopefully they branch out more and receive some new locations throughout the city as well.
For the most part, I really enjoy banking with Velocity. The customer service is pretty good and I haven't had any problems with my account. Online banking and the extended drive through hours are very convenient. My only problem with them was the process I had to go through to get the account. The first couple times I tried to cash checks there, they said they had to hold the funds for a while until the check cleared. This may be standard practice, but I've never experienced it at any other bank so I was a bit surprised. Fortunately, it all worked out and now I'm very happy with my whole experience.
