Asked the bank to put a password on my account. Using passwords is a great control, not complicated, and very effective. On FIVE different occasions, the teller has FAILED to ask for my password, Each time, I just receive an apology and assurance it will not happen again. What type of financial institution is this that cannot even comply with the simplest of internal controls?? How do they comply with more complicated and complex internal controls?…show more
The VACU is notorious for Excessive NSF Fees. They are very practiced in the art of extorsion when it comes to these fees. The reason that you do not read about numerous law suits regarding excessive NSF Fees (although there are quite a few out there) is because they settle most of these out of court. Of course they have a large body of high priced corporate lawyers that could challenge and most likely win many, if not most of these law suits. However the mere fact that a case goes to court will tarnish their reputation. They are afraid the bad reputation will thwart new business/suckers. Therefore VACU continues to charge excessive illegal NSF Fees, then when you threaten to take them to court they simply offer a large amount of money to settle. Most accept the bribe as they know that if they go to court there is a very good chance they may see nothing at all. The best thing to do is to stay away from this bank altogether. Virginia Credit Union is an extremely shady organization and they do not operate with the legalities and norms that a professional organization of this stature should.…show more
Every single one of these negative reviews come from things that are not the bank's fault. Someone needs to teach these people how to keep track of *their own finances*, it's not the bank's job to do this. I've had ZERO issues with them. Why would you get mad at the bank for automatic transactions for bills that YOU SET UP? Entitled people are the worst. Take care of your money, and 99% of these "reviews" would go away.…show more
This is the worst bank i have ever had in my life ! , They rob you blind, They pay bills early to overdraft you on a regular badis, Piss poor company with cheap receipts and Atms thats always out of service, I will do everything in my power this year to leave this bank, Never do direct depositor automatic withdrawls unless you keep $1000 in the bank at all times..Warning !!!!
Are you seriously giving a bank a bad review because you do a poor job of managing *your* transactions? Cancel automatic transactions - problem solved. It isn't the bank's responsibility to pay your bills.
Working with VACU has been like dealing with Jekyll and Hyde. For the most part they are a fairly good bank to do business with. BUT...you must keep your eye on them. Just like every other bank, they are NSF trigger happy. If you do not produce any NSF fees on your own, they will produce them for you. I have had quite a few incidences where I had a deposit and as well as purchases go through the account within one business day. VACU will post all of your purchases before they post your deposit, in hopes of producing NSF fees. They got me on this many times. Although my deposit would have covered all of my purchases, they posted the purchases before the deposit and charged me out the wazoo for NSF fees. For a short period of time, they weren't posting any of my deposits on Mondays, in hopes of me making purchases over the weekend knowing my deposit would cover the charges on Monday. But...they failed to post any of my deposits on Mondays. Luckily I caught onto this scam and didn't get caught with any NSF fees. Today (Sunday), they have not been posting any of my purchases that I made. I have made several purchases at the grocery store, gas, etc. However, none of the purchases showed up in my account. This is of course an attempt at producing NSF fees, thinking that I will spend the money in my account because the balance shows much more than what is actually there. VACU is very clever and sneaky when it comes to producing NSF fees. You must watch them every day, several times per day, or you WILL get NSF fees. I have paid several thousands in NSF fees over the past year, none of which were my fault in the least. Knowing this, they refunded much of the fees, but not everyone will call them out. Just beware.....!…show more
Worst bank I have ever dealt with. Giving me the run around for depositing a small check. They seem to think I have time to drive all over Richmond to drop off IDs. 15 years will never bank with them again, this institution has gone down hill. I would go to a county credit union before here.
This company will rob you blind even if you pay your balance, They will sit back and monitor you and post stuff early just to overdraft you, Even if the money is put in your account that same day, I regret joining and plan to leave a sap !

I previously had an account with Virginia Credit Union with my ex-husband. I was fine with them for the first year, but I had a really hard time with them while he was deployed. Anytime he tried to used his bank card while he was overseas, they would freeze the account. I had called them several times to let them know that he was out of the country, but they stated that they couldn't allow the account to be active if I couldn't let them know in advance what country he would be in. (That's not possible with the military.) I guess otherwise they were alright, but I certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone in the service.…show more
I've had an account with VACU for about 4 years now, and it has been a pleasant experience. They have been easy to deal with during tax time, and their online account management system and iPhone app are fantastic. Their staff are always a joy to work with and their locations are convenient. In addition, they do not hound me with extra unnecessary offers. They are strictly professional. Plus, some of their locations have complementary coffee, which is always a great thing. They know how to satisfy their customers.…show more
