Best Discover Credit Cards in 2021
Discover it® Miles
The best Discover credit card is the Discover it® Miles because it gives 1.5 miles per $1 spent on all purchases and doubles the rewards new cardholders earn the first year, as an anniversary present. Discover it Miles also has a $0 annual fee and a 0% foreign transaction fee, like all Discover cards. But unlike some Discover cards, Discover it Miles rewards you with a consistent earning rate on all purchases. That’s one reason it can work for so many people. Plus, it has a low intro APR for new purchases: 0% for 14 months (11.99% - 22.99% Variable regular APR thereafter). Applicants need good or excellent credit for high approval odds.
Discover it® Cash Back
The best Discover card for bonus cash back is the Discover it® Cash Back credit card, as it offers up to 5% cash back in designated bonus categories, which change each quarter and require activation each time they do. All the rewards cardholders earn the first year also get doubled after their first account anniversary.
Please note the 5% bonus rewards rate applies up to a quarterly limit. All other purchases earn 1% back.
Discover it® chrome
The best Discover card for gas purchases and dining at restaurants is the Discover it® chrome. It gives 2% cash back on up to $1,000 spent at gas stations and restaurants each quarter, along with 1% cash back on all other purchases. Cardholders also get their first-year rewards earnings doubled after their first account anniversary, and they get to enjoy introductory APRs of 0% for 14 months followed by a 11.99% - 22.99% Variable regular APR thereafter.
Discover it® Secured Credit Card
The best Discover card for bad credit is Discover it® Secured Credit Card because it has a $0 annual fee and gives 1 - 2% cash back in rewards on purchases. Cardholders earn 2% cash back on the first $1,000 spent at restaurants and gas stations each quarter, in addition to 1% cash back on all other purchases. Discover will double all the rewards earned the first year, too.
Discover it® Student Cash Back
The best Discover card for students is Discover it® Student Cash Back because it has the potential to be one of the most rewarding student credit cards on the market. This card is especially good for organized students who can take full advantage of the card’s 5% cash back bonus categories, which require quarterly activation, as well as for those who qualify for its $20 yearly good-student statement credit.
Students who frequently make purchases at gas stations and restaurants in particular might want to instead consider Discover’s other student credit card, Discover it® Student chrome. The maximum rewards rate isn’t as high, but the bonus rewards categories are consistent.
For your convenience, we’ll summarize our selections for the best Discover cards by category below.

Methodology
WalletHub monitors the latest Discover credit cards, in addition to more than 1,500 other credit card offers, in order to help people find and get approved for the best credit card for their needs, whatever those needs may be. Given that many different types of people are in the market for a Discover credit card, WalletHub’s editors select the best options in a handful of popular usage categories.
In making their picks for the best Discover credit cards by category, WalletHub’s editors consider the terms and card features most important to the particular type of user or transaction in question. With most rewards-based categories, for example, we consider the average person’s expected net rewards earnings after two years of use, based on spending data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On the other hand, when considering big-ticket purchases that will take more than a month to pay off, a card’s introductory APR offer, regular APR and annual fee are the most important terms to take into account. And we use those terms to calculate the expected cost of each card when used to pay down a certain balance over the course of 24 months.
The particular parameters vary by category, but the bottom line is that we crunch the numbers to find you the best deal, so that you can maximize your savings with minimal effort.
