Learn More About Gas Credit Cards:
Just like you have options at the pump when filling your car’s tank with gas, you have choices when it comes to how exactly you’re going to pay for that type of purchase. To help you make the right call, we’ll highlight the answers to some common questions people have about gas credit cards below.
Gas Credit Card Rewards
Gas credit cards offer rewards in the form of cash back, points, miles or discounts at the pump. It’s natural to seek out whichever card offers the most rewards on paper. But in reality, whether you’re looking for a gas credit card, an airline credit card, a hotel credit card or another type of rewards card, the offer with the highest rewards rate won’t necessarily be the most lucrative for you. For example, a card affiliated with a specific gas-station chain might offer the highest cash-back rate, but if it’s inconvenient for you to fill up there, the extra rewards won’t do you much good.
Gas Credit Card Types
There are several types of gas credit cards to choose from. Some are affiliated with a particular gas-station chain and only give you bonus gas rewards when you fill up there. Others reward you the same at all stations.
Unless you already get gas from a single chain, or can easily begin doing so, we recommend a gas card that rewards you everywhere. If you have to drive out of your way to find a particular station, or if that station charges more than its neighbors, any extra rewards you might earn with a station-specific gas card won’t net you very much.
Gas Credit Card Credit score
The best gas rewards credit cards require good credit or excellent credit for approval. Applicants with a credit score of 700 or higher have the best chances of being approved for a good gas credit card.
Gas cards are available to people of all credit scores, however, so there is no specific minimum credit score required. But the lower your credit score is, the less likely you are to get a credit card with gas rewards. You might be limited to a gas-station card that provides convenience but few other perks.
