BEWARE!!!
The NO ANNUAL FEE IS TEMPORARY! I have had the Petal One Visa for over two years now. I have always paid on time and don't carry a balance. After over two years of perfect history with this card since March of 2021, they have decided to impose an $8/month $96/annual fee starting on July 1st, 2023. I have a 750 credit score and no derogatory marks on my credit report. It is very shady to abruptly, and for no reason, impose an annual/monthly fee as the card is still being advertised as a no annual fee card (false advertising). Customer service could not give me a reason for this change when I called to ask about it. I asked about upgrading to the no annual fee Petal 2 card and they said "we don't do upgrades". You also cannot have both a Petal 1 and Petal 2 card. I also asked if I could apply for the Petal 2 card once I close this account. They said they don't allow for "reapplications". This credit card company is terrible. Avoid this card! There are plenty of better cards out there with no annual fee and good cash back rewards. There are no rewards with this card at all. The select merchants rewards is inaccurate. I tried to go to a restaurant that Petal claimed had a 5% cash back reward. The cash back never came. I reported this to Petal and they said they'd look into it. 3 months later, after they said they'd look into it, there was still no reward. Immediately after inquiring again after having waited the 3 months, I just got notice of them imposing an annual fee on my account (May 18th, 2023) starting in July. This card is shady and not to be trusted. There are much better, more honest, rewards giving, true no annual fee cards out there. Don't waste your time with this card. I will be closing the account by July 1st to avoid this new, unexplained annual fee and replacing it with a better, more trustworthy card, with no annual fee, and actual cash back rewards that are honored.
Petal just sent me an email saying (see below) how lucky I am to have their card, just so lucky I now have to pay 8 dollars a month for the right to use their card, and a higher than normal credit rate.
Didn't pay that before. what a rip-off. Never late on payments. Oh, they used brilliant legal terminology, for example, "This is an "optional" change. [that will possibly negatively impact your credit score [didn't say that]."
So you can give up this older account on your credit, again a significant factor on your credit score, or give back the card. Go jump off a bridge!
I know what I'm going to do. COMPLAIN to every consumer agency, Congressperson, Senator, regulatory agency, etc. I can find and when that doesn't work, I'm going to post on every single freaking review site I can find to help people from becoming victims of predatory lending.
I SPECIFICALLY only apply for credit cards that have no fee unless they offer some significant points or something. Petal/YOU GET TO PAY OUR HIGH-interest rate. Will strategically end this relationship and complain to relevant governmental bodies.
