SUNTRUST BANK CREDIT CARD REVIEWS
Almost impossible to to talk to an actual person when calling account holder services; when you do, they are rarely helpful, even flippant.
I opened the account due to the 5% awards categories and eventualy ended up using it for my primary card. Recently, I had to replace a still functional but cracked card, and that was a disaster. The option is buried deep within the time-wasting phone prompts (as was any option to speak to an actual person). When I finally got a replacement card ordered, I was not advised of any potential disruption of use of my still functioning card, and I assumed (as with every other card I've hever had) my old card would remain active until I received and activated its replacement. Nope. My card continued to function for nearly a week after ordering the replacement, then suddenly, it was no longer usable. I was still days away from receiving the replacement, and by the time I realized they had killed the card prematurely, auto bill payments charged to that card were rejected and I was charged penalties for late and non-payment. I have never had this happen with any other card, and when I finally got thru to a human to express my displeasure with their non-communication, there was zero effort to resolve, and the agent even said, "If you're displeased, I'll be happy to help you close this account."
I have since shredded the card, and next cycle I will pay my balance, redeem remaining rewards, then never deal with them again.… read more
This card is a great way to build your credit if you find that other credit card companies reject you for not having any prior credit. Because the card is secured you will be required to put a minimum of 300 dollars on the card, but should you cancel the card and as long as you pay your bills you will get this money back. While this card may not have the benefits you find with other cards, and you essentially have to back your own credit limit, it's great for students or people with poor credit that need a means to improve their credit rating.… read more
This credit card is a good one. It has a reward system and no annual fees. The rewards are pretty good because your getting cash back on money you would be spending anyways. Two percent is a good rate for a cash back offer, plus the extra ten percent bonus makes it that much better. I never reached the 6,000 dollar cap to drop the rewards to one percent. The only real reason to get a credit card is for the rewards or emergencies. So, for me this one ranks pretty good. I would suggest this card to anyone who can get it. Just remember to pay the balance every month.… read more
This appears to be a pretty good card if you do a lot of traveling, AND can pay for it with this card. I specify that because, at least when I had a corporate job, all of my business travel expenses had to go on my company-issued AmEx, or they wouldn't be reimbursed. But if you happen to be a business owner, or just have the leisure time to travel a lot, it would be great to get double rewards for all the money you spend on travel, since it can add up quick!
It's also nice that it gives you the option to redeem for something other than travel, though I've always found the reward selection for credit cards to be quite overpriced (in terms of what you get for your points as opposed to what you would get if you were to redeem for travel).
The rates and fees all look to be pretty well in line with other cards of this type, though it's nice that there's no annual fee. I have one rewards card with an annual fee, and I kick myself every year when fee time comes around. The extra perks (collision damage waiver, hotel extras, travel insurance) are also nice, and well-suited to a card that's aiming for the heavy traveler. Especially considering perks like the CDW don't normally come with non-platinum cards! Overall I give it three stars because it looks to be a card with good, solid benefits and a decent intro rate/period, but it is geared toward a pretty limited audience.… read more
I’m not sure that the SunTrust Travel Credit Card provides anything that makes it special. The introductory 0% rate is extremely nice, but after that your interest rate skyrockets to anywhere from 15-21.99%! That is simply too much for me! That’s the most important part of the card for me, and I’m not sure anything else can redeem such a high rate. There are some cool features, like paying damages to rental vehicles and double points on meals outside the house, but I just can’t justify spending with such a high interest rate. Stay away from this one if you can!… read more
I have had a somewhat mixed experience with Suntrust Bank. I have a savings account, a credit card, and a checking/debit card account through them. I have had my savings account with them for at least ten years. Every time I visit my local branch the customer service is very good. The tellers are always polite and helpful and they seem to get people in and out quickly. However I am dissatisfied with the actual service that the bank provides. It seems I am always getting hit with random fees here and there on my checking/debit account and credit card. They won’t waive fees even if it’s a mistake even for an obviously loyal customer who has been with them for over a decade. When I call in to talk to someone about this I have had to go through five or more people on more than one occasion to get things sorted out, and some of them have been rather rude. All in all, they have great people working their local branches but the way the corporation is structured has a lot of room for improvement.… read more
I've owned a Suntrust Platinum Visa Credit Card for about a year now and there isn't really anything special about it. As you can see, it doesn't come with any rewards, which many people looking for a credit card that will actively use it and pay it off efficiently want to have. This credit card is basically another credit card you keep for emergencies or if you don't have any cash on hand and know you can pay off a purchase later. Its platinum look could potentially be a perk because it does look fantastic! But other than that, if you're looking for something REALLY special in a credit card, look somewhere else, I mainly got this because I'm a Suntrust bank user in the first place.… read more
I am happy with my credit card I have through SunTrust. The customer service I've received through the bank has been great so far. I'm happy to say that the only issues I've had so far, misplacing two credit cards and having fraudulent charges once, were quickly resolved with only a brief waiting time for a new credit card to be sent out. The people working in customer service are nice and helpful and eager to serve. The longest I've waited is only about two minutes on the phone when calling them. The website is quick and easy to use. I can transfer funds from my checking account directly to my credit card so it only takes a couple minutes to pay my credit card bill.… read more
