Mercury is a very exceptional card provider. They approved me for 2500 with a score in the mid 6’s. I use my card frequently and pay off my bill fast and usually in full or close to in full. I never use over 20% of my available credit. I’ve never been late. They increased me to 2850 after 4 months and then increased me again last month (less than a year after having my card) to $3600. App is great and I’ve never had an issue with service. Majority of poor ratings are people who don’t use their card responsibly and blame the issuer. They get 5 stars from me.
If you buy things, and pay them off, then a high APR is completely irrelevant. These cards are meant to help you with your credit, and I see people with the same spending habits that got them there in the first place. This card is only for the 2K credit limit to use for my total Credit Limit, and to keep my Utilization low, while I begin closing these other BS cards, Like Milestone, Avant, Aspire, First Premier. This Mercury Card is not meant to be used as a real credit card, it’s supposed to help with bad habits. This card offers no perks. If approved for $2000, never go over $200, and just pay it off. I haven’t had to deal with CS yet, but as of now, I know what this card is for. It’s in the description, ?♂️

I have enjoyed being a Mercury card customer for years and I’m very grateful for there being No over limit fee and a higher limit than most other credit cards I maintain
Horrible experience with their customer service I applied for the card, after a couple of months I had an fraudulent transaction so I called customer service to report fraud and inform them that my card was stolen They did not want to credit back my account and never inquired about the fraudulent charge I m stuck paying for purchases I never authorized!!!! I am about to cancel my card for so many reasons
I just applied yesterday after getting several invitations in the mail. I have purposefully not applied for credit for a while because I did not want inquiries. But the pre-approval was for 3k and my credit is in an ok place. So, I bit. I was denied due to a very low credit score that does not match what I confirmed from Transunion. Also, the denial notice said they received a FICO score from Transunion. Transunion uses VantageScore, not FICO. The score Mercury provided on the notice is much lower than my FICO score as well. Overall, this has been a very scammy experience. I contacted customer service and was told a supervisor will contact me in 3-5 business days. I intend to work with the credit bureau to resolve any negative impact to my score. I'd love to know what, exactly, they base their preapproval on.
Transunion uses both, just like with all the others. Vantage 3.0, and FICO 8 is still the norm.
No score will ever be the same. The score you receive from Vantage or FICO as the consumer is not the same even if the bank uses the same credit bureau. Banks use their own internal model they arrive at a score based on info from TU, EX, or EQ. You receive a score from
Karma or FICO that’s a general estimate of what the bank sees and it’s for educational purposes only. The score can differ by as much as 40-60 points. And Mercury after having pre-qualifying you still only does a soft pull when you accept offer. If you are denied a hard pull is never done. If you’re approved and accept the official offer then they pull a hard inquiry. And TU doesn’t use Vantage - Karma uses vantage 3.0 and Karma then applies that model (V3.0) to the information in your TU report (as well as EQ now) and then generates a score that is not the score any bank uses. I can see a FICO mode score based on my report from TU, EQ and EX even though EX is usually thought to be the only one that uses it.

There are better cards out there. While they do offer a higher credit limit, the interest rate is incredibly high and not worth it.
