Union Bank Credit Card Reviews
What's Your Rating?
They only send a check for balance transfers. This means if you need to pay something off in less that 3 weeks, you're at the mercy of the post office. They have no way to set a custom amount to pay monthly (especially important if doing a balance transfer.)
If you want to set up auto-pay for a balance transfer, your options are to pay the full amount, or the minimum monthly amount, which is $0 since there is a promotional no interest period. This means the only way to pay a custom amount is to call or go to the website every month to pay on the card.
Customer service is snippy and seem irritated to answer questions. Save yourself the headache and just find a balance transfer card that charges 1%
BUT there are a lot of quality-of-life things that I think need to be improved upon with the card though. If you're looking to transfer balances quickly then this card will not be for you.
Application - If you don't get an instant acceptance it took me 10 business days to hear back about the application then another 3 days to receive the card. During the 10 business days, they didn't provide any update such as, "we received your app", calling into their support line yields no information as well as they'll just tell you that no account exists for you yet. After the 10 days, I received an email saying welcome but until then I had no idea what was going on with the application, much less if they even actually received it either.
Once you receive your card you'll activate it on their website. Their credit card website is... bare, to say the least, and it almost feels like it was made by a novice developer in the 2000's and it was never updated after that.
To actually make a balance transfer, you can't do it through the website either. You need to CALL in then provide the Institution name, Account number, Check mail to address, and amount. Then what they'll do is they'll mail in the check to the institution on your behalf. The rep said this will take approximately 2-3 weeks so if you're looking for a quick turnaround then you may be better off going for a card like the Slate or Citi Simplicity as those can all be done online and completed in maybe over a week.
Overall, if you have a high balance you need to transfer to pay off easier then this card does have its benefits, but if you're looking for a quick transfer then this will not be the card for you. A lot of the process is manual and a bit archaic along with a barebone website for maintaining the card.
3 stars because while it does what it needs to and provides a good perk, the overall steps needed to access and utilize the balance transfer perk is a time-consuming and manual process requiring you to call into their support and waiting for them to mail the check to the institution.

Does the Union Bank Platinum Credit Card provide checks?
No, the Union Bank® Platinum™ Credit Card does not provide checks right now. In fact, no Union Bank credit card does.
If you request a balance transfer, Union Bank can issue a balance transfer check, but only to the other credit card company.
In general, credit card companies will sometimes mail checks to their customers, unprompted. Some credit card companies even allow cardholders to request them. The customers can then write the check out to themselves, or to someone else. Keep in mind that if you cash a credit card check, the transaction will count as a cash advance.
