Citi AAdvantage Card trip cancellation is no longer available. Citibank cut trip cancellation and several other travel benefits from its AAdvantage credit cards in 2019. When it was available, it reimbursed the cost of non-refundable fares if a trip was cut short for covered reasons beyond the cardholders control.
Two American Airlines AAdvantage cards that do offer trip cancellation are the Barclays Aviator Red and Aviator Silver cards. Upon approval, Barclaycard will send new cardholders a Guide to Benefits with details on coverage limits, eligibility and other requirements.

The Citi Platinum Select / AAdvantage World MasterCard Credit Card for those who want more freedom, and exciting perks and rewards. Compared to the United Mileage Plus credit card, this one offers a lot more miles to start with, such as the 30k miles in the beginning. It also helps that they wave the first year of annual fees, and you earn 10% of your already redeemed miles, up to 10,000 a year. You always get your first bag checked in for free, and the interest rate is not too high. You also get discounts with several purchases, and with each membership renewal. I would recommend this card to frequent travelers!

The Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Mastercard has an average interest rate compared to other prime cards. I have a better interest rate with my Bank of America rewards card while also having much more flexible rewards in the form of cash back. The rewards of this card are great for people who travel a lot, which doesn't apply to most people. The cash advance rate and fee for this card is more expensive than most other prime cards as well and is similar to sub-prime cards such as Capital One rewards card. Overall this could be a good card for someone who travels extensively, but the benefits of other prime cards would result in greater savings for the majority of people.

When you're a frequent traveler, you need an airline card with the airline of your choice. So if you fly American Airlines often, then the Citi Platinum Select / AAdvantage World MasterCard Credit Card is great - offering a round-trip domestic flight for spending $1,000 in the first 3 months of owning this card. The other perks are fairly standard, like the 2 points/dollar bonus for spending money at American Airlines, and 1 point otherwise. And it lets you check on a bag for free, similar to the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Credit Card. However, this card has a hefty $95 a year fee after the first year, so if you're not a frequent flyer on AA, this card could easily end up costing you more than you were looking for...

The Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard® Credit Card is yet another great card for those wealthy individuals who are flying constantly. The only way to make up for the so-so interest rate, and the lack of any introductory rates at all is to use this card constantly and to have the need to fly constantly. Additionally, you get charged a "membership" fee annually of $95 after the first year. This is a good option for those it is aimed for, however, that would be a small segment of the population, for the rest of us, there are better, no-frills options like the Slate by Chase card.

I've had this card for just about 2 years now and I use it all the time. I use it on small and big purchases alike all with the intent to rack up mileage points. It has done me well. Currently there is special where you can get 2 for 1 on allowed purchases and with this I have seen my mileage soar. I again have enough to get a round trip ticket. This would be three. I live in California but I grew up in NY. I try to take a trip back every year and with this I get a free one. I have never had a problem with American Airlines so I will keep flying with them until I do. Not only is it good with flights you can also use it to replace your car insurance and it came in handy for me. I had a problem with a rental where there was a very tiny chip in the front windshield. They told me not to worry but then I got a bill for a few hundred dollars because they replaced the whole windshield. I did not sign up for the insurance so they tried to stick me with the bill, however because I used this credit card they handled everything with no fuss and I never heard from the car company again, and nothing came out of my pocket.

My experience with this credit card has been good over the years. I've enjoyed getting American Airlines miles for all of my purchases and hopefully soon will have enough for a free flight. They have a good website for viewing your statement and account and even paying your bill online. The times that I have needed to reach out to Customer Service for questions they have been very responsive in a timely manner. I think I have an annual fee though so that is the only negative thing that I can think of since I have other credit cards with no annual fee. So I guess it depends on how many purchases you make to make it worth while. Overall I recommend it.

I'm someone who flies a lot and uses various credit cards that offer airline miles. Unless I need to make an emergency flight, I always use my miles to buy my tickets. This saves me a tremendous amount of money. If you're someone who makes a lot of trips that you usually plan at least a month in advance, this card is really worth it. American Airlines is not my favorite company to fly with and theirs are the only tickets you can buy with the rewards from this card, but the money saved outweighs this minor negative. If you fly enough that the amount you'll save on tickets exceeds the fees significantly enough, this card is a must have.

I have had the City Aadvantage card for about 2 years. This is a great credit card to have if you spend a lot and want to save up for travel. It has a $75 yearly fee, which you can justify if you use it a lot. There aren't very many promotions to increase the amount of miles earned over 1 mile per dollar spent, which is too bad, but if you are comparing it to the 1% cashback cards the airline miles are worth more. Customer service for the card has been very good. Citi's grace period is a bit shorter than other cards, so it does seem to come up sooner. For now I will keep using this card, but with so many others good cards out there I'm not sure it is worth the yearly fee unless you spend a lot on it.

I absolutely love this credit card! One of the main reasons I opened it was that I got a promotion for 30,000 AA miles after I spent $750 in purchases on the card. Considering my husband and I were in the process of redoing our closet, this was not going to be a problem at all.
I love the tie-in also to American Airlines, as they are my favorite airline to fly, so what better way to treat yourself than with some airlines miles for buying that pair of shoes you really want? I'm getting close to being able to buy my husband and myself a ticket to somewhere in the USA. It's nice to get rewarded for buying stuff!

I actually think airline credit cards like the Citi Platinum Select / AAdvantage Visa Signature Credit Card are some of the hardest cards to compare because so much depends on how much the miles are worth upon redemption and what each individual’s travel habits are. In general though, I can tell you that you should only get an airline card if you regularly fly and a AAdvantage Card if you regularly fly American Airlines or one of its partners. A rewards card is supposed to help you save concistently, not maybe once and a while, and if you save up a bunch of miles like a squirrel preppin for winter, you might wake up one day to find that stash depleted by hawkish credit card company that now requires more for the same rewards. Anyway, here are what I see as being the pros and cons of the Citi Platinim Select AAdvantage Visa Card (I guess you could say the length of its name is one con!):
Pros
- Initial Bonus: Anytime you can get a whole heap of free miles is a good thing. When you get about enough for a free roundtrip flight to the Caribbean, as the Citi AAdvantage Visa Card provides, it’s even better. - No First Year Annual Fee: You get a lot of value in the first year without having to pay. And even when you do start to pay in the second year, you get a $100 discount each year for American Airlines flights. - Anniversary bonus: Had to list that $100 bonus as its own pro in case someone missed it above. - Miles refund: You get 10% of your annually redeemed miles back, which is another reason why only frequent flyers should get the AAdvantage Visa Signature Card.
Cons
- Ongoing rewards: Double miles on AA purchases and one on every dollar you spend on everything else isn’t great. - Annual fee: You’d rather not see an annual fee, but its wiped out by the cardholder anniversary present, so it’s not that big a deal. - Priority boarding and in flight discounts aren’t rewally anything to write home about, especially since youll just have to sit on the plane longer and in flight purchases tend to be fairly expensive already.
Ultimately, the Citi Platinum Select / AAdvantage Visa Signature Credit Card is a decent card and makes for a good option for AA customers, but if you’ve got a different airline of choice or have other expenses that are bigger than travel (like gas and groceries) I’d get a card that matches one of them. For example, the PenFed Platinum Card gives you 5% cash back on gas and the Blue Cash Preferred from Amex offers 6% cash back at supermarkets, 3% at gas stations and department stores, and 1% on everything else. The Chase Sapphire Preferred also offers a $500 initial bonus, so that’s also something to consider.
