Although the American Express Gold Card has a lower annual fee than the American Express Platinum Card, it still doesn't seem worth it or appealing to me. I dislike point based rewards, however, if it was a card that I used frequently, and the reward options (like merchandise and gift cards) were something that I was interested in, it might be a worthwhile card. The $75 credit on hotel expenses and using your points for airline travel would make this a great card for people that travel frequently. However, I am not one of those people, so this card doesn't seem that useful to me.

$125 is a hefty fee for an annual card fee, even if you do receive the 1st year without the fee. I actually had this card but ended up canceling it. For someone who will use this for frequent flier miles and hotel visits then it is a great card and you can earn back your entire $125 with different deals and offers. One of the things I really did like about American Express was that you can't charge more than you can pay. The card has to be paid in full every month, so it you have your finances in order and don't have to worry about min payments it's good for you.
There are a lot of benefits for the card, but I like my Chase Freedom much more. I get cash back on all my purchases and that adds up to free money for me. I can redeem for gift cards, transfer to my bank account, or get a statement credit. Plus my card is a Visa so I never have problems with it being accepted where American Express isn't. Depending on the time of the year, I can get 5% cash back with my Chase Freedom card compared to 1% at other times. The categories always change, but they are usually ones that I use often; movies, gasoline, eating out, etc.

As the annual fee for the American Express card is fairly high -- $125 after the first year --getting the card is a commitment to their rewards programs. If you're consistent about using the card and getting the hotel credit ($75) as well as other rewards such as the complimentary room upgrades, you can easily make that $125 back and enjoy all the benefits of using American Express. My USAir mastercard has a significantly lower annual fee, however it does have blackout dates -- this card does not.

With the American Express Gold Card I like that you earn points ever time it is being used. The points do not expire and you have up to 500 different brands to use them for. You can also use them for frequent flyer miles. You can receive up to $75 in hotel credit, which can really help. What I do not like about this card is the $125 annual fee that has to be paid after the first year. That is not something I would want to pay.

The American Express Gold Card is decent, but does not really offer significant benefits that warrant spending the extra money as compared to the American Express Green Card. I prefer the American Express Gold Premium Rewards Card because it offers extra points on a wider range of purchases. Overall, the Gold Card does have good customer service features that make it a good card, but I believe that there are better cards out there.

This card doesn't seem as if it would be the best fit for people like me. While the first year is free, every year after carries a $125 annual fee. I have a similar card from Amazon and Chase. It doesn't carry that fee, and it also allows more points per dollar spent. While this card gives a max of 2, the Chase Amazon card allows 3 points per purchase. While this may be a good card for some, in my opinion, it doesn't work well for me.

As a frequent flyer the American Express Gold Card seems like it could be very helpful, especially if used on a regular basis. The hotel credit could also be very useful. The only two problems I would see with card would be that it takes 5,000 points to start redeeming for travel. I could see it taking a while to earn that many points. The other problem is the 125$ fee after the first year. That is a fairly large fee. The citi credit card I have does not have an annual fee and there I get to redeem points much faster than 5000 points.

I am a frequent flyer and shopper so the American Express Gold Card looks to be very useful as I don't like to travel with a lot of currency. I wish there wasn't a foreign transaction fee, or an annual fee, but the annual fee is a lot lower than some of my other cards I use so that's a plus! This is the traveler's token of efficiency and excitement! Sign me up!

The American Express Gold Card seems like a good card, has a good reward program for its loyal customers but I would warn new credit card holders that it has an annual fee after the first year.

When I started college I needed a card to build my credit as well as keep me responsible. This card is great for that! The fact that you have to pay your full balance every month really helps to keep me responsible and lessens the risk that I will make purchases that I will later regret. Not having a monthly fee is really nice too. After the first year the fee is still minimal.
