No, the Citi Premier card does not offer car rental insurance coverage anymore. Citi removed it in September 2019, along with all types of travel insurance and some purchase benefits. The issuer did the same for most of its other credit cards, too.
In general, credit card rental car insurance protects you against collision damage and theft when you rent a car using an eligible card. It's a common credit card benefit. But some issuers, like Citi, have removed it from their credit cards.

The offer itself for the Citi Premier card is pretty good, it is dealing with Citibank that has been a horror.
First, they declined my application. Which is insane. Why? My FICO scores range from 835-850. Yearly earnings vary from $230,000 - $260,000 per year. We have NO DEBT. I have a number of credit cards but they are paid off every month. No loans, just paid off our million dollar home. Assets in the range of millions.
Then, after I complained, they opened the credit card with a limit of $2000. LOL! Really????!!! The same day I applied to Chase Sapphire and got a very large limit and a few months later with Fidelity Signature Visa and got an even larger limit. (Just sayin'.)
But it gets better! Even though I have had a Citi Double Cash card for OVER A DECADE and have a flawless record with that, they refused to apply my payments to the Premier card for WEEKS. That's right - they take the money from my bank and refuse to allow me to use the credit line even though they have the money for weeks. It is the same payment account being used to pay the Citi Double Cash card, by the way.
This is a form of theft, is it not? Think about it. They take the money from my bank account and, in effect, create a forced loan from me to them because they don't make the money available to me to use, but they HAVE IT. Somewhere, right? Free interest for them using my funds in a forced loan every time I make a payment and wait for weeks for it to be applied to my credit line.
They are treating me like a brand new customer they have never met before - after over 10 years with them as a customer they act like this 5 month old account is suspect and I am engaging in criminal activity that needs close monitoring. And the credit limit of $2000 makes the card virtually UNUSABLE.
I despise Citibank and me and my family members are closing all accounts with them ASAP.

It's probably a good card. I Applied because wallethub said I had a good chance. I figured I could use the bonus and use the card for gas. They said processing 7-10 days. To me that means denied.........

I just applied for and received my CITI Thank you Premier. It took approximately a month due to the most incompetent people I've ever met. I'll give them the three thousand in purchases in the three months with not the slightest problem. I'll take my $500 gift card or $650 airline credit then go back to American Express. Maybe fewer points but far better service. I Had to wait 22 minutes to get through on the phone while they bombed me with ads for Sears and other companies. When a bull mates with a cow the bull is said to have "serviced the cow". That's about the same service CITI supplies. As soon I get My AMEX Gold Card back I'g going to cut my CITI card up into little pieces and send it to CITI's V.P. for this division. I will suggest that during his nex colonoscopy he ask the doctor to shove it as far up as it will go. By the way. I have an 810 credit score so I'm sure AMEX will be glad to have me back. This site forces you to give a minimum of one star which makes this site overrated.

You’re an entitled numbnut. What bull excrement for a review. There’s a clear reason that you left Amex and if you actually closed your card out with them, that’s one of the stupidest things you can do for your credit. You may have an 810 but it’s in spite of your idiocy, not a result of your financial prowess. Good grief.

The fee on this card is $95, not $125. The $500 initial member bonus, along with the first year waiver, gives you the equivalent of six years for free. It also pays 3 points per dollar on travel and entertainment (including gas), not 1.2 as stated elsewhere. Travel also includes airlines, hotels, car rental, taxis, subways and even road tolls. Entertainment includes theater, movie, concert and most sports tickets. You get a 25% bonus on travel redemptions, so you can earn up to 3.75 points per dollar depending on how you use the card. I don't know of any other card that offers bonus points in all these areas. For international travelers, most other cards have up to a 5% surcharge on foreign currency purchases, this card does not. Added with the normally preferential exchange rates all cards offer you can save quite a bit if you travel overseas. Customer service has never been an issue, as their mobile apps do everything I've ever needed. Everyone is different, but if you travel on multiple airlines and eat out quite a bit, this may be a good option. You have to consider how you normally use cards and what redemption options you want.

Almost every bank or financial institution today offers cards that give you rewards for every purchase, and where is Visa or Mastercard not accepted??? Rating a card based on the simple fact that they give you rewards or that it is accepted everywhere makes no sense!
The Citi Thank You customer service is a joke, their people do the bare minimum, they simply handle your transaction. They do NOT give you all the facts up front, they do NOT tell you about the fees associated with any changes, returns, cancellations, their stories and policies change depending on who you talk to, and they do NOT care about you as a customer.

Here's the catch... The Thankyou points used for flights on the Citi Premier Credit card aren't worth much. You will pay up to 3 times the flight price you can find at the airline's website. Moreover, Citi will not match the significantly lower price you can find online. This mark-up in flight charges results in the Thankyou points being worth possibly 1/3 of the stated value.

I don't know what you are talking about. The travel service they use will match the discounted airfare or more. I have used my rewards points for airline tickets below most published discounted prices.

The Citi Thank You Premier Card has become the first choice among my credit cards. Its most attractive feature is the bonus points program. After you spend $2500 in the first three months of membership, Citi offers $500 in bonus gift cards. For every $1 spent on purchases for Airfare, hotels and travel agencies, Citi offers two Thankyou points. In addition to this bonus, the Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card offers is one point two points per dollar spent at gas stations, supermarkets, drug stores, and commuter transportation and parking merchants and 1 point per dollar spent on everything else. Finally you can gain three points for every dollar spent on purchases for Dining at restaurants and select Entertainment merchants while using the card. I do a lot of travelling and get at least 3500 bonus points just from my gas expenditures. Bonus points can be redeemed for gift cards and travel rewards. You can get free airline tickets once you accrue enough bonus points. Thankyou points never expire so long, as you are still a cardmember and can be redeemed on-line. You can shop at on-line retailers through the Citi Thankyou site. This past Christmas I did a lot of shopping using my Thankyou points on Amazon.com. It definitely took a bit of the sting out of the holidays. Bonus points can be used for on-line bill payment through the Citi Thankyou site. On-line bill pay is another good option. You can use your points to pay any of the bills that you normally pay by credit card. You can also pay your credit card bill using these points which seems a lot like recycling to me. There are many travel benefits associated with the Citi Thank You Premier Card. The card provides coverage of up to $3,000 per person, per trip if items are lost, stolen or damaged on a trip you paid for with your Citi card. If certain unforeseen events get in the way of your trip, there is travel insurance for non-refundable trip expenses, like change fees, for up to $5,000 per year provided you paid for the trip with your card. There is Worldwide Travel Accident Insurance providing up to $500,000 in compensation. There is also travel and emergency assistance for last minute travel arrangements, travel issues, medical aid and legal issues. Luckily I have never needed to use any of these services, but it is nice knowing that they are there if I need them. My interest rate is a manageable 13.99% and I pay $125 per year for the card. The yearly fee does not apply to the first year and by the second year I had received benefits many times greater than the fee. Membership also includes twenty four hour concierge service and private pass service which gives you access to tickets for special events and concerts. I have used private pass on a few occasions and was able to get tickets to some sold-out musical events. This alone, made this card worthwhile for me.

The CITI Thank You Preferred credit card has one of the most amazing sign up bonuses I have found. Regardless if you use it for gift cards or travel it is a great deal. If you redeem the points for statement credit the amount gets cut in half – want a way around this? Search the rewards center for mortgage credit – they will cut a check to your bank and mail it to you. All you need to do is go to the bank and cash it.

The Citi ThankYou Premier Card offers competitive rates starting as low as 13.99%, which is very reasonable for a card such as this. The rewards program is the main draw here, though, as you earn extra points for the things you shop for the most, such as gas, groceries and more. The personal concierge service is also a nice draw for those that are very busy. This card fell just out of my credit range when I was looking at cards I was interested in, but it was very high on my list. I settled for the Capital One Quicksilver Card but this was the card that I truly wanted. I would recommend this card to anyone who has a use for a credit card on a semi-regular basis.

The Citi ThankYou Premier card seems similar to a Citi Card that I already have, the AAdvantage Citi American Express. The bonuses that come with the card seem like a good deal, especially the bonus reward points after $3,000 in purchases. The only thing that deters me from looking further into this card is the somewhat steep annual fee. $125 is a bit more I currently pay for an annual fee on my current card. This offer actually seems like a pretty good deal and I might be more willing to apply for it if the fee was less. I can’t really justify increasing my annual fee for the moderate increase in rewards compared to what I am already getting.
