But what if you need significantly more than 12 months to pay down a transferred balance? What if you opened the More Card just to garner the 0% rate on purchases and 5% cash back rate? In both cases, the No Balance Transfer Fee Discover More Credit Card doesn’t have much to offer you, let alone “more.” The reason why is there are at least two Citicards that offer 0% on both purchases and transfers for 21 months. Yes, these cards have 3% balance transfer fees, but this won’t affect you if you aren’t planning on transferring a balance and will likely pale in comparison to the finance charges you’d incur if you allowed whatever balance remained at the end of 12 months to be exposed to the 10.99% - 20.99% (V) that kicks in once the 0% intro period on the Discover More No Balance Transfer Fee Card expires.
Ultimately, the Discover More Card is a pretty good option for consumers looking to manage their debt while also earning rewards on everyday expenses. It is the best card for if you can pay down your debt in 12 months, but if you need more time, you’ll have to do some math to figure out whether the balance transfer fee charged by a card offering 0% for longer will be more expensive than the interest you’d incur with the Discover More Card. On the other hand, since small business owners should use different cards for funding and everyday purchases, the More Card is not really applicable to them. If you’d be able to pay down your debt within 12 months, the lack of a balance transfer fee probably wouldn’t be all that meaningful, at least in comparison to what you’d save with a 0% interest rate for 21 months. If it were me choosing credit cards to use for business, I’d get the American Express SimplyCash Card for everyday expenses, since it offers 5% cash back on wireless services and office supplies and 3% cash back on gas, and one of the personal Citi bank credit cards that gives you 0% for 21 months.
