I've been reading other reviews where people say this is the best card they've had and I'm having a really hard time believing that. or they've just had terrible cards their whole life. this company and card are terrible and in so many more ways than I can even express but the biggest one happened recently. I used my card at walmart.com and they ended up declining the purchase for some unknown security reason that
even they couldn't explain. Well they immediately refunded it before it posted. Like within an hour. I use PayPal for the transaction and PayPal even shows Walmart refunding the money. and PayPal sent it to Green Dot. everyone did their job and perfectly except for Green Dot who I'm being told will take two business weeks to return my money to me period you would think my monthly service for buy me some customer service but I can't get a hold of one damn person. Their text spots are terrible and if they have customer service I haven't met them yet. I want my damn money back and as soon as I get it I'm leaving Green Dot immediately. This card is bogus. I was having problems with this card but I looked past it because I was waiting to redeem my cashback reward of $252. First of all they say you will receive your pay check 2 days early and say you will get your money as soon as we get it but thats not true. My job release the money on Wednesday and I can confirm this every pay week because on
our pay portal it shows when my organization releases the money. I have only got it one day early and sometimes on the regular pay date but never 2 days early. This card want to charge fees some months and some months don't want to. I notice other prepaid cards wave the monthly fee if $1000 or more is direct deposit in the account during the month. I thought that was the case with this card until I was charged the fee of $7.95 2 months in a row and I had well over $1000 deposited in it both months but prior to those months I wasn't charged. The atm withdrawal fee is ridiculous. You will be charged at least $5 dollars each withdrawal for out of network atms and most atms that greendot can be used on only allow withdrawals of $200 at a time. So if you want to take out $1000 thats 5 withdrawals of $200 which is $25 withdrawal fee. And the atms thats in green dot network is very scarce. They have more deposit locations than withdrawal locations. But what made me leave this review today and made the decision not to continue to use the card is the cashback feature. They tell you if you use the card for certain online purchases you will get cashback after a year of using the account and that it is in good standing at the time your cashback is time to be redeemed. Well its a year now and the $252 dollars I have earned has gone poof no where to be found. When you log in it shows that its there but when you click it it shows the balance is at $0 and you cant redeem cashback for another year. And its no option to click or redeem the $252 i accumulated over the year. It just went back to zero and the reward amount isnt even showing in my account balance. So the only feature that was keeping me using this card is a scam so im done with greendot forever. I have had other greendot cards in the past and have not liked them but i thought I would use this card because of what it offered just to find out its bogus.… show more

Why on earth would a gift card need a social security number to activate. Like I would trust you with my social? I guess my son will be out the money that he received on this gift card from Christmas. Shame on you for such a scam. There should be an option for 0 starts, doesn't even deserve 1 star.

Too many cards are used by scammers. They take a picture of the numbers and wait for the activation.then take your hard earned money to spend it on themselves. Green Dot does NOTHING. The scammers just keep getting free money.

i get an email every day stating a balance on my account from a deposit from my irs stimmulus check. however i no longer have that card and have no access to my funds. i have called and sat on hold for hours and cannot seem to get anyone on the phone to assist me

Quite possibly the worst experience EVER! I loaded the card at Walmart while traveling and not only did they charge my account for every miss-swipe but when I called to inquire about my account balance I got the run around and they ate over $200 i had deposited onto the card. I will tell everyone about this. They also refused to mail my card info to me. Terrible service!

Don't use this card unless you can afford to loose the money you put on it. Someone stole my credit card information somehow and made 3 purchases in a 2 day period at the same Popeyes restaurant for a total of $139.00. I found out about the charges only 4 days later and immediately called Greendot. I was already very agitated that it even happened and then on top of that I had to talk
to someone who I could not even understand. The only thing that I got out of the conversation was that I had to mail a letter listing the dates and charges that I was disputing. So I did, I explained that my card never leaves my home, I use it for internet purchases only and on a desktop computer with good virus protection. I live in NJ and that the purchases took place in CA. I was on lock down and could not have flown out to CA because of covid-19 no fly restrictions and have never been to CA. in my life.
This was their response:
"Thank you for contacting us about the dispute for $139.55 on your Green Dot. We have concluded our investigation of your dispute referenced above. Based on our review, we are unable to grant your claim because based on our review of relevant information, including transaction and account activity, no error was found. If you would like to request and receive a copy of supporting documentation used in the determination, please send a written request including your full name and the Case Number included at the top of this letter to: 000000000."
No error was found, really, they're calling it an error. This was credit card fraud, a crime was committed and it should have been investigated as such. I sent both an email and a mailed letter requesting the supporting documentation used in making the determination. They never responded.
Below you should see a Greendot response to this review saying something like:
"It truly saddens us to hear you’re unhappy with the service you were provide. Please allow us the opportunity to make things right. Please give us a call through the number on the back of your card, so we can review your account with you."
I've already called, but can no longer speak to anyone. The automated system says that a decision has already been made, there is nothing further that customer support can do, goodbye.
This is not a real credit card company, you have no rights, don't throw away your money… show more

Bought the card tonight to make my car payment online since the western union and moneygram near me are closed, and now it's not letting me make the payment! Keeps saying card declined when I know there is ample amount of money on the card. There is no reason why I shouldn't be abke to make my payment. Green dot uses bait and switch tactics regarding their “temporary” green dot card. Both their website and the paperwork that came with the card make it sound possible to use your “temporary card for all services. I just purchased the card, loaded funds, and I keep receiving an error message that my card cannot be validated. Wait. Here is the best part...I call the number...follow prompts, enter all information...THEY SAY TO REGISTER THE CARD! Total BS!

First impressions last. My first impression? Never again! And I know people will keep buying their bogus card,

I would tell my worst enemy to use another service. I have been waiting over 2 weeks for a replacement card. Originally it was sent to my old address but USPS stopped forwarding my mail. In was advised since I moved to another state I would have to send a photo of my ID and a utility bill. My utilities are included in my rent- which I have not been able to pay by the
way- so I asked if other bills will suffice. I have not been able to change my ID yet. If you can "prove" your identity over the phone through an automated system, why are you required to go through so much trouble to change your address? I was also assured that my ID didn't have to be my new address and it was just to prove my identity. I sent several bills and my insurance card showing my car parked at my physical address. I got no notification that the documents were rejected. The GreenDot App told me that my card is on the way! It's at my local post office and should be making its way to my door. So I call to make sure my address is changed, suspected it isn't due to my former address still showing on my account. The customer service rep says "No need to worry." I said yeah I'm worried and pissed off that my money is being with held from me. I asked what was wrong with the previous documents I sent so that I could correct. She was not able to tell me. I asked if my money could be transferred to another account or if I could have checks to be told NO my account is blocked due to not registering my card. I said I want my card mailed immediately and they will be waiving my $15 expedited shipping fee. She put me on hold and congratulated me on getting the fee waved. I have never had so many issues with a service. It's not the service rep's fault that this occurred, but I had to be very assertive. They should consider hiring a few people who fluently speak English and trashing their automated service line.… show more

My son bought this card to pay his car insurance online. Set it up and couldn't use it. I had to bounce my bank account to pay it for him. Lucky i have overdraft protection. He has to reimburse me and he can't even get the money out to pay me back or even transfer to my bank account. Here it is a day later and he's already been charged 7.95. All he put on

I bought a green dot card from Casey’s and loaded $62.00 on it when I went home to go register/activate it it wouldn’t let me it keeps saying we are unable to validate your card please try again later I call and try to register and it keeps telling me I need to finish online but every time I try it won’t let me!!!! Best damn card I've had?. This is true. The only problem I encountered was with a few online companies that purchases were declined. Anyhow, I figured I didn't need the purchases because the card has been great!! Also, I wish there were no ATM fees since the ATM banks are charging fees already; besides those minor details, Green Dot rocks!!! I have even been blessed with almost $70 in cash back rewards?

Finally had to register on line as the "customer service" rep was unintelligible and non-conversant with the English language. She had to (1) open an acount; (2) provide personal information to include social security number; and then (3) we find out that in addition to the $2 fee we paid when
we purchased the card, there is a $7.95 monthly service fee for your account. This service fee was not mentioned at the "point of purchase", nor is it available with the card until you purchase it and OPEN the packaging.
As a side bar comment, I checked BBB today. Green Dot is a member of the BBB with an "A" rating; however, there were 119 customer complaints mirroring those cited here and all were a 1 star. Kinda seems like the BBB might be a self-licking ice cream cone.… show more

While on her trip she attempted to use her card, relying on that money to live on until she returned back home, it was declined with insufficient funds. Not knowing what to do relying on that money for food to live on for her school trip she called the card number only to be told that she couldn't be helped due to system failure, but she could look it up online at the website. She called home and we looked it up and found no charges. My wife then attempted to call herself and was told that she was unable to help due to system failure as well. The next day another attempt to call the Green Dot company was other great failure only to be told that they couldn't help due to their system still under construction. But just a few hours more another attempt again the system was up but only this time we were directed to an automated system and couldn't get to a person at all. So my $250 just disappeared, my daughter (whom had to beg her teacher and friends for food) was scared for a child, and we as parents are left frustrated and angry for a company whom suppose to be a big great company is robbing people. I will not be purchasing any more of your brand and ill be boycotting along with reporting this to the BBB. This should have never happened and uncalled for especially when it effect a child. The worst prepaid card ever! I got this card from my sister for my son's birthday, she told me she thought it is a gift card. When I start using it I realized that it is not a gift card and I need to create an online account with them to use the card which I don't mind to do it but the nightmare started once you have activated it. First, they charge you $7.95
every month if don't read $1000 and they charge $4.95 every time you are loading the card. I put it away once it's balanced $0.00 and after some time when I checked it I found that a negative balance of $7.95 I'm so angry and wanted to close the card right away and called customer service and he told that I have a negative balance in my account to get the balance $0 I have to reload that amount, i went the CVS and the guy told me have reloaded a minimum of $20.00 and it should be cash. I have to go back to my bank to get cash and return to the store and a lady told there is a fee of $4.95 to reload... once I have used the amount left the card has left $0.38 I called the customer service again (which by the way the worst customer service) after the lady asked me all the questions to verified my account she told that she can't close the account because I have a 40.38 left in my account I was so angry and told to talk to her supervisor and she put on hold for a long time and she told my account is closed and she rushing to hung up on me I stopped her and asked her to gave a confirmation # she a random number and when asked her to get an e-mail confirmation she said they do not have that and she hung up.

I am very disappointed in this Card. I got 2 of them at Christmas from my parents. Each with a $60 limit. The first one was registered, reluctantly, online. I used it the day after registering in the amount of $38.75. I tried using it the same day at an ATM for $20. The transaction was rejected. I figured that was due to the $3+ for using the ATM. aside. I registered the 2nd card yesterday, again having to supply a Social Security #. Today my purchase was $55.42. The card only approved for $52.05. I thought that was a bit odd. I came home and decided to research GreenDot a bit. Upon reading the very, very, very fine print it all became clear. Immediately upon registration I was charged $7.95. A monthly fee. Hence, the $52.05 limit. Apparently I let the first card on my desk too long and now have a balance of $5.35. Out of an expected $21.25. I would not recommend this card to anyone. I bought this card over a week ago so I can have direct deposit from my employer. My car has been locked for 10 days. They have almost $2,000 of my money after having multiple conversations with their representatives in the Philippines I was asked to submit a pay stub I repeatedly Express to them there is no such thing everything was filed electronically through QuickBooks there is no paper pay stub to be submitted.
After sending them the bank statements from my employer verifying the direct deposit they insist that they need a paper pay stub in order to review the account. The representative told me that I have to do whatever I need to do in order to get a paper pay stub. Basically what she just asked me to do was to commit fraud and falsify documents on which I have no intentions on doing. I have no money to feed my family or to put fuel in my vehicle. I am filing a complaint with the office of the Comptroller of currency I'm also filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's office along with the Federal Reserve on the grounds of unfair practices under the federal Consumer Protection Law. I will also be contacting an attorney to file law suit against this company on the grounds of the above-mentioned.. After reading hundreds of complaints and I'm sure there are tens of thousands I believe there are grounds enough to file a class action lawsuit against this company and put them out of business for good.… show more
