I like using my menards credit card only if I need something, the credit card comes in handy when you really need it. Plus their rebates.
Trying to pay off non-promotional balances, to avoid interest being charged on my account and can't if you have promotional balances due to expire within 60 days. In my situation I have to payoff my entire balance 2 months before my promotional balances are due to avoid paying interest on non-promotional balance of $200. Home depot and lowe's doesn't have this issue. Supervisor or representatives can't over ride capital one's problem, so I will be charges interest on my account for the next 3 months because how they handle non-promotional and promotional.
I don't live near my Menards, so my options were to walk away from my purchase, or put it on one of my other Capital One credit cards. I didn't feel like making another trip so I charged it and walked out w/ my purchase.
Today I called the customer service line for my Menards Big card. They let me know that there had been a data breach of card numbers and a number of the accounts were frozen. I understand that these things happen, but the data breaches were associated with gas station purchases (according to the customer service rep). I don't buy gas w/ my Menards Big card. What I absolutely don't understand is how I was never notified about the breach and freezing of my account. A simple email or automated phone call would have worked wonders. If I would have known that, I never would have made the trip and I would have waited for another day to make the trip and make my purchase. Captial One dropped the ball here.
I requested that my balance from my other Capital One card be transferred to my Menards card. The Menards Big Card Customer support let me know that this was not possible. I then contacted Capital One directly for my other card, and was told the same. When asked what they would do to make this right, I was told nothing. So instead of paying off my account for 6 months interest free, I'm stuck with paying it all off at once, or spreading it out and paying interest on the principal. My only option from Capital One was to take the purchase back to the store, return it, then purchase it again w/ a new Menards Big card acct number in order to get the purchase onto my Menards Big card. Not happening.
Capital One is playing a really bad game of not taking the blame and not wanting to own up to their problem. I expected great customer service, and I was given excuses. They even tried to place some of the blame on the Menards store that I was at. The same store that has great employees, clean facilities (seriously every Menards store I've ever been to), and customer service that kept me coming back for over a decade. I promptly cancelled my Menards Big card and my other Capital One card. I can charge my purchases elsewhere.
