Got this card and a Credit One card last year to start building credit, and just closed it today as I no longer needed it. There are fees of course because it is secured, but I never had a problem with transactions, and it helped build my credit over that year so I recommend it as a starter. I've had Opensky for years now...the first report, approx. 1mo, from getting the card my credit jumped 100pts....since then my credit has continued to go up...I've had no issues with payments taking too long...maybe longer than you would expect from a company you've purchased from....but it will be processed based on the date you actually paid it and I've had no late charges related to when they process vs when I've paid. The reporting hits
every time... I took my credit all the way from 517 to over 720...I'm sure other factors played a role but for me, Opensky was the first step. I've never had issues with customer service either.… show more

They take FOREVER to update your payment (between 5-8 days). They are inconsistent with their reporting to the credit company with sometimes reporting on the 1st and sometimes on the 17th of the month. Additionally I keep my credit utilization at below 17% and somehow their inconsistent reporting and late payment updates keep making my score drop. I am beyond ANGRY!!! DO NOT USE OPENSKYY. Use Chime instead.

Stay away from this credit card company. They are incompetent, unprofessional, predatory and the quality of their services is extremely low. I am going through a nightmare process of having my card revoked and being charged for fraudulent purchases. They don’t do anything right and will simply tell you: I am sorry about that.
Also, you are smarter than having to use a credit card that is built to take advantage of your situation.

The company says they Want to help you build credit. That’s a lie. I put 2k down for my secured card. Well I never activated it and subsequently never used the card, obviously. They charged me a late fee of $38 and then again a late fee, all of which I did not even think about since I never activated the card. Well they sent a delinquent notice in and my credit score dropped precisely

Worst Credit Card Company EVER if they can call themselves a "Credit Card Company" I called the Corporate office and got the same CSR from the number I previously called, talk about a SHAM..They offer nothing as far as Advancement towards an Unsecured Credit Card or even a Higher limit. I’ve had my OpenSky card for a year now, and it has helped my score so much that I now have unsecured cards and my score continues to grow. Yes, they may be slow at reporting payments, but your score isn’t going to go up from 1 payment anyways. The longer you hold on to it and keep it below 30% of your card's limit, you’ll start to see real results in about 6 months.
I pay my cell phone bill automatically every month and my bank automatically pays them in return. I basically do nothing and build my credit. THIS is what this card is meant for! Good luck!… show more

Ever since i paid to get a credit increase on my opensky card I haven't seen the full amount at all. I have a 1000 limit but i pay the total bill and it never fully goes to a 1000. You can't get customer service and if you luck up and do they are short and rude with you. Don't get this card

I was finally able to buy a home after repairing my credit with the help of Open Sky Visa card. I paid on my card timely and it brought my credit score up. It was the best decision I made when getting this card. It made all the difference in raising my credit score

Great card for rebuilding credit. The card has a limit equivalent to your security deposit. Never had any issues and it helped to rebuild my credit in a relatively short time and Opensky has been very straightforward to deal with.

It works but I recommend having a separate account that is ONLY for your bills, I recently had the issue where I could have sworn I was charged for my payment and was not and if two payments return on a payment method you will no longer be able to use the payment method so heads up on that one. All in all this is a GREAT card to start out with SO LONG as
you are RESPONSIBLE with it!! That is the most important part about this card is if you use it right you WILL reap the benefits! I have raised my credit scores from the low 500s (509, 513, and 510) to low to mid 600s (613, 625, and 630) in just a matter of 10 months! I payed my card on time they declined my payment for a reason they wouldn't tell me and I went over my limit thinking i payed my balance brought my credit down 64 points. Even with on time payments credit only goes up 1 or 2 point per month. Horrible card horrible customer service is non existent there is not even a number to call

Open Sky is full of crap....I opened my account $1000 Secured card... They deducted from my bank account within 2 days.....Closed my accouhts they told me 8-10 weeks for a Refund. It's been 5 months no new card no refund. I CALLED they said 8-10 more weeks on my Refund....Stay away from Opensky....During Covid19 they held my $1000 I needed for food and gas. Also reported me late when they supposed to help you build
credit. All other cards gave 90 days grace period. Plus I'm getting charged $200 in late fees and penalties on my own Secured Money....Opensky is a Joke....… show more

Worst credit card ever. They put hold on every payment you make for 5 days. They say the post it but then don't make it available. You could have the card for a while and pay it of every week and still 5 day hold. They will hold a payment for 5 days if it is 20 or 300. It does not matter to them.

Be very careful when applying for this card.
I applied and submitted a $400 payment to open the account.
I received an email stating the card was in the mail. After 3 weeks I had not received the card. I called customer service (a nightmare) and after being bounced around and calling back for over an hour, I was finally told that my account had been put on hold.
This was after "the card is in the mail."
They
wanted a letter stating I lived at the address on my application!!
I requested my money back, was told it would take 6 weeks. 2 days ago I received a credit card statement where they deducted the $35 fee.

The reality is it is $235 up front. $200 for a deposit then $35 anual before your have even activated your account. How can you have an anual fee when my account hasn't celebrated an anual time amount? So if you are not careful and don't realize it because you never used your card to know you have a payment due. Then guess what you credit score raise just became a score drop. Buyer beware
backing out of this deal now becomes a hit to your credit as well. Read all the fine print or you will be screwed in that first round too. Do not get this card, it brought my credit score down 9 points. They hostage your money. After your deposit, they place a five day hold on your money and you can only use it at a certain time otherwise it affects your credit negatively. It is also difficult to get in contact with a live person without being on hold for 40 minutes and calling back several times.

Absolute scam. Paperless billing never came. Didn't use the card for almost a year and somehow ended up owing $120 balance due to a $3 paper fee (EVEN THOUGH I ASKED FOR PAPERLESS). You should skip this card entirely and do literally anything else. Customer service is 100% rude and unhelpful. Their only goal is to get money from you, not actually help you with your issues.

So I got a statement for the first time in the mail today, which I thought was weird. My balance ALWAYS paid off before the due date and I NEVER been late on a payment. going on. I see there is a damn balance of $3 dollars for a "FEE". So I keep reading and this fee is a "Service Charge Paper Statement Fee". What set me off is when it states if I don't pay this "fee by the date listed above" I would be charged $38 dollars. So mind you I already paid this fee without even considering questioning it like a week ago thinking it was the balanced owed on what I spent but that's not the case.
The case is that EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ YOUR STATEMENTS every month because these banks finna rip people off and nickel and dime them especially during this recession.
I call OpenSky to request this be refunded and they refused, so I ask them to mail me a copy of the card agreement (EVERY SINGLE DOCUMENT, WHICH IM SURE IS MORE THAN THE 2 PAPERS I RECEIVED FOR THIS STATEMENT) and I was told that I would not be charged a $3 dollar fee for sending me some paper. HOW CONVENIENT HUH!
I then again asked the CSR if she can gimme my money back and she refused. So i closed the account and I'm finna open a new credit card with a company who claims to try and help their customers build credit, but they steady scamming people out of their hard earned money by nickeling and diming them for outrageous fees and then refusing to refund them. GOODBYE OPENSKY. HELLO BANK OF AMERICA SECURED THAT UPGRADED TO UNSECURED CREDIT CARD!!! FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT TO QUESTION ME I ENCLOSED MY DOCUMENTS FOR PROOF! As far as a credit card.. perfectly fine. If you need ANY assistance what so ever with anything all they do is point fingers and make you jump through impossible hoops. So if you need a credit card without any customer support they are great. Other than that you will get better customer support from a 3 year old eating crayons.

If I could review this as 0 stars I would. Wished I had looked here for the latest reviews before I submitted an application. I can confirm what the other latest reviews say about customer service. If you have any problems you can't get them resolved. They only offer postal service.
I submitted an application and only put 200 in it, which I am soooo glad I only put that much in. I chose to
cancel my application because they kept saying my photo identification wasn't good enough. I took the pictures with a galaxy Note 9 and looked at the pictures myself. Absolutley no issues.
I am now struggling to get my 200 back since I don't even have the luxury of logging into their account app to contact anyone. You do not want to use this company at all. I even submitted a complaint with credit Karma which advertised this company.

Kind of confused by the people acting like this card is so awful because it's not perfect.....It's like they totally forget that its a card for REBUILDING credit, its' not supposed to have the same quality of service as an AMEX black card. Be grateful that someone is giving you another change because friendly reminder: you can still get denied for secured cards depending on your credit history. This one is practically a sho-in. If
you use it PROPERLY, meaning use less then 30% of the limit (even less is ideal) and pay as early and as much as possible, you will eventually be able to move up and get the cards that have the customer service and features you think you are entitled to, because you've now earned them. Then you can close the card (yes your account age will take a hit, but payment history and amount of credit used are much larger factors than account ages) and get the deposit. I used mine for only my subscription services (Spotify, Netflix, etc.) and pay it off as soon as the bill drops. Because I did the right thing and had reasonable expectations, I had no issue. Again - if this is the only card you can get, think of the situation you are in and is instead of complaining about the card, use the card to get out of your situation to get the better cards.… show more

I give this card a 3 out of 5. I havent had to call customer service for anything but I heard they're horrific so i knock them for that. This card should not be used like a debit card. Keep your purchases low (under $60 a month) Use this card for reoccurring bills like Netflix or your cell phone.
