Let me start by saying that I would absolutely NOT recommend getting a credit card through Walmart. It's not the card itself (though the interest rate is high, even with good credit); it's the customer service that you're obligated to speak to when something goes wrong with your account. After being in customer service for over 10 years myself, I will, without hesitation, state that Walmart has the WORST customer service representatives and supervisors I've
ever worked with in my entire life. When I first received my Walmart credit card, I attempted to use my card to pay for my groceries. They charged the single charge to my card twice, which took two weeks and speaking with managers several times to get this duplicate charge removed. It was clear no one was eager to assist me and have this duplicate charge resolved. If I had not stayed on top of it, they would have had me pay for the charge twice in a heartbeat.
I recently attempted to make two charges to my card on the same day (because I needed two separate receipts) and the second transaction was declined. I called customer service to see why this was the case, as there was more than enough balance on the card to make the payment. My account had been frozen and I was unable to verify who I was because I had changed phone numbers and no longer had access to the number I originally signed up with. I had already update my new phone number on my online account (as well as removed the old one), but Walmart never updated that in their system. They would not accept personal information, such as social security number- they specifically needed me to call from the old number, which I no longer had access to. Because I was unable to "prove" who I was by calling from the old number, I was asked my a condescending customer service manager, Anna Reeds, to mail over a copy of my ID/drivers license and paperwork from my phone carrier with my new phone number. I specifically explained to Anna that neither my ID nor paperwork had my current address (which I had also updated on my online account). She said that this did not matter; that they only wanted to see my name on both the ID and paperwork, as well as the new number. When I asked her how long it would take for them to verify this information, she told me anywhere from 14-21 days. I asked her if I would be called when the information was received and she said no. When I asked if that meant I would just have to keep calling them back, she sarcastically responded with, "yup, I guess so." At one point, after I had attempted to give my social security information, address, etc.- Anna even made the comment, "well, we didn't ask you for all your personal information..." in a manner that implied that if anything were to happen with my personal information- it's on me for dishing it out.
That day, I sent the paperwork Anna Reeds had requested with the reference number, copy of drivers license, paperwork and a note explaining the situation. I called three weeks later to ensure they received my paperwork, so, I could access my account and make a timely payment, as I always have. After speaking with a customer service representative who quickly told me that my paperwork was declined due to the address on my phone bill not matching my current address, I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor. This supervisor (Ria, who told me they can no longer give out their last names) told me, "sorry about the incontinence- what we can do is send a complaint to Anna for giving you false information," but that I'd still have to resend all the documentation with an updated address. Basically, I had to go out of my way to get this paperwork printed out from my phone carrier as told by the rude, condescending original supervisor, Anna Reeds, mail it and wait three weeks for it to be declined. Because their is a flaw in the Walmart credit card system, they have no other way of verifying who you are as EVERY other credit card service does.
After these two awful experiences with Walmart's customer service supervisors, as soon as this issue is resolved, I will be paying off the balance on the card, and cancelling my card. Never again will I use them, again, solely because of their absurd policy and extremely poor customer service. My advice to anyone considering getting a card with them- do NOT do it. If you ever run into any issues (which I ran into two huge ones within one year), you will have to jump through hoops to have it resolved.… show more

I dont do cards, but trying to establish some credit to buy a house, plus it was around Christmas and a lil exra money was nice (at the time) I was so wrong! For starters in Nov their were unexplained charges on my card from walmart.com, and walmart.com couldnt find them any where on my account, I knew I never made these said purchases! I never got anywhere with them transfering me from deparment to
department, walmart.com, back to walmart credit smh. Now in March theres another unexplained charge on my account. Credit company says its from Walmart.com...... Walmart.com says there was never a puchace for this amount. Same on my end when I veiw my account on line. So here we go again wasted almost 5 hrs of my day, off and on, hanging up on me, rude and very poor customer service skills. Also I made a full paymnet of 856$ in Feb to pay my account off and got a 35$ late fee in March but never recieved a bill, I figured I wouldnt get a bill just paying it off. Nope they found something somewhere to give me a late fee. After aruging with them all day, and both not understanding the charge they finally came up with a plan, that they had some problems in Nov with their billing and that I owed them the extra charge that was applied to my card ctfu! Im so done with them. Oh and..... lol they dropped my credit line from 800 to 200 and didnt notify me but somehow with that extra charge that they pulled out their asses, it over drafted my account over the 200 credit limit. Plus with them screw balls dropping my credit line and adding fake late fees my credit score dropped 12pts. So thank you so very much for screwing us over! I will pay you off (even whats not owed) you will reep one day! But Im deffinitly cutting this card up and you will never get a dime from me again!… show more

Horrible customer service!!! - used my card to order online. Informed Walmart MasterCard I had never received an online order and asked them to credit my account as the seller did NOT have a signature of delivery. They opened an "investigation" - months later was informed that my account was not to be credited that it was "a risk I take when ordering online"!!!!

Love this card, I got it 3 months ago and I pay it off before the statement date. Never had a problem with customer service because I pay attention to the small print so there is no need to call them. I cant wait for a credit limit increase and hopefully in 12 months I will have the mastercard. :)

For the haters, learn to use credit responsibly. For all others, this card is great. I didn't have excellent credit nor did I have poor credit either. I was given a modest credit limit, and I always pay the credit card off (way before the due date like every credit card I have). I haven't been charged interest yet but have received a few hundred dollars rewards now (which I continue to save). You see
all the haters have something in common. They either wait too late to make a payment, don't pay their entire balance before the grace period, or hold balances each month. Those people would be better off with lines of credit designed to hold monthly balances or would be better off financing their purchases. Credit cards should be paid off in full monthly and payments should be made 4-5 business days prior to the grace period end. Follow these simple rules and you'll have no problem. Use your credit irresponsibly, and I bet you'll find yourself angry because of high interest charges, seemingly unfair penalties, and a poor credit rating. Don't blame the game, blame yourself and learn the tough lesson.… show more

I originally applied for the walmart card and got the one just good for their store (I think 1500 limit ish) --- However - about 8 months into it they sent me a mastercard version of the walmart card and upped my limit to 6000 --- I did NOT realize when I activated the card the differences and it ran a hard inquiry on my credit which I was NOT thrilled about (house refinancing don't
need hard inquires)... well... I haven't had any issues, I have a 700 credit score and paid it off this month - interest is way high compared to my other cards, so it will go in the drawer for emergencies.… show more

I got a debt collection notice on this card that I never opened. Somehow someone was able to open a card in my name without my social security number. I will be cancelling this card! I have never made a late payment or missed a payment. I don't have problems with my credit score either. Recently I made a payment because I was planning on paying off the balance of new appliances with my card to take advantage of the cash rewards. When the lady tried to process the charge the card was declined. I panicked because I had made a payment several days
earlier to cover the balance of the appliances and any recent purchases and thought my card had been compromised. I called Walmart customer service and was told there was a negative balance on my but I had to spend up to my limit before the credit would be applied. Since when does a credit card company not apply a payment? I was told to put through a charge for $X dollars first and then a second charge for $Z next to pay for my purchase. I thought this was bizarre but was told that was the only way I could pay for the appliances. I called the store back and they put the charge for $X through but when they tried the amount for $Z it was declined. I called Walmart back and another representative told me I had to put a different amount through this time. I asked him to double check because I didn't want any more problems. He told me to tell the store to put through $Y first and then whatever balance remained on the purchase could be put through. I hung up and called the store. No surprise when they tried to put through the $Y amount it was declined. I called Walmart back and was told it was declined because I had already been declined too many times that day!!! Seriously? I told them the only reason I was declined was because of them and following their directions. Speaking with the third representative within a couple of hours he apologized for what happened and tried to do what he could to help me. Finally I thought there was hope. Unfortunately he went to his manager (who wouldn't speak with me directly) and the manager told him that due to my payment my credit card would now be frozen for 7-10 business days. So here I was always paying my card, I have a credit on my card and I can't use it. Why? I really can't tell you because I called Walmart a couple more times after that and everyone gives me a different story. What I do know is I made a payment in order to take advantage of the cash back rewards with the purchase of appliances. Those funds were frozen by Walmart which meant I had to come up with more money now to pay for the appliances another way and didn't earn any cash back rewards. I was told my a Walmart representative this issue was sent to head office and someone would call me within 24hrs. No one ever called. For anyone wondering the amount I was trying to charge on my card for the appliances was below my maximum limit. Tomorrow is Monday and I will be contacting my bank to reverse the payment made to Walmart. I will be cancelling my credit card with Walmart and will be doing my shopping elsewhere from now on.… show more

Very bad communication with customer service, and exorbitant monthly charges if you have any sort of carry-over. As with Walmart itself, this is just another example of inflated profits for a huge corporation with no real community benefits. This is a sorry example of trickle-down economics, folks. I started with a regular card and a low limit (300). I shopped at Wal-Mart often enough so I thought it would help me better track purchases. I followed all the general rules of keeping a low balance and paying it off. My limit was raised after 6 months to 700. I didn't change my behaviors. After 3 months, I got a letter saying they were changing my card to a Mastercard I could use
anywhere. My new limit was 1500. Three months later I got the card and when I activated it the new limit was 5000. I get 1% back, discounts on gas, and bonus financing. It works for me because I just shop and use the card the way I always have and now I get rewarded for it. I had an incorrect charge and called about it. It was resolved in a few minutes. To put it bluntly the card sucks. Walmart sent me a bill stating that the total minimum due was to be paid by 1/1/2016. When I went to make the payment two weeks prior I was told that the account was closed. After two months of nonpayment they closed my account with no written or verbal notice. Then later on the same day I received a letter in the mail stating that Synchrony Bank was
no longer handling the account but that it was sent to a debt collection agency called Allied Interstate. But I was told both by Walmart and Allied that payment could be made to either and it would be one in the same. Sounds like BS to me because the way I understand it companies sell debt off to collection agency's to recoup some of the money lost then the debt agency will try to get a higher amount then what they paid for the debt. Now I am hearing that Allied Interstate really isn't s debt collection agency but a part of Walmart used to dupe people into thinking that they were sent to an actual agency so they pay up.… show more

What I am seeing here is everybody telling the same stories of bad customer service and "habitual" mistakes on accounts that always cost the card holder unnecessary penalties. The reviews are actually very bad and since so many say the same thing, there is little doubt there is much truth to the complaints. However, if you will notice, there are a lot of thumbs downs to the negative reviews and the occasional outlandishly fabulous grand

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. This is my first credit card and I'm young and I'm trying to build it up. I applied and got approved quickly in store, used the temporary pass and everything. They said they would send it within 10-13 business days. It's almost been a month. I've called multiple times, and they didn't answer any of my questions except that they'll send me a new one. Now I have to wait another

So then customer service in the phone told me I can pay in store if I have my drivers license. Went to the store, and they didn't even bother trying to use my drivers license. I closed my account with wal-mart almost 10 years ago because of the horrific customer service and APR. Then approx 6 months ago I started getting statements from them again! Although the statement showed no purchases it did show a .40 cent credit. I ignored it. The next month I got a cheque from them for the .40 cents. My family and I joked about it but basically ignored it. After all its 40 cents
who cares right. Then I got another statement from them with a payment of something like $37. This time I called them to advise them they were applying someone elses payments to my account and I would appreciate if they could correct this and stop sending me statements. I told the customer service person, who got annoyed with me for wasting her time and advised me to throw out the cheque. A few weeks later I received a letter from their investigation team advising me that were aware of my report and would take care of it. Whew, thank god that's done. WRONG. Last month I again received another statement thanking me for my payment of $153 and change! Since I had already reported the previous error and knew this was not my payment I ignored it again. Today, I opened my mail and recieved yet another statement thanking me for my payment of $786 and change. Then the next envelope I opened was a CHEQUE FOR $939.79 Back on the phone. Their machines put you into this terrible loop that I had great trouble navigating due to the fact that they don't recognize my closed account number, the recording says they are open from 9:30 am -6:00 pm EST (my time zone) but when you finally get through it says they are closed and to "please call back during regular business hours" So I tried a customer service number I found on line and spoke to a very sweet girl who had absolutely no clue how to help or even when the credit office would or should be open, but she made notes, gave me a ref# and transferred my call just the same. Back into the cyber loop I go, another 20 minutes of pushing buttons and low and behold I actually get someone at Wal-Mart Master Card, who thanks me for my honesty, but just gives me another number to call, because he apparently has no idea how to deal with this situation either. I call that number and surprise! (not really) they are not open either! I feel absolutely horrible for the person whom this money really belongs, but no one at Wal-Mart seems to care and I have no idea what to do next. I could give it to my lawyer to deal with but then Wal-mart would have to pay her and it would cost more than the cheque is for. Bottom line- Walmarts customer service is terrible! No one should be able to post anything to an account that has been closed for almost 10 years and when this did happen, no one took it seriously or had a clue what to do about it. I strongly advise not using Wal-Marts credit services if you can avoid it! I rated them 1star only because 0 stars was not an option!

This Wal Mart Card has a high APR and a pretty low reward. It also has a sub standard cash back program. It is easy to get approved for, and for the first 12-24 months there is not interest. So, maybe a good starting card to build credit but then you will want to move on. Three stars seems fair.
