My husband gave me this card as a giftcard with $20 that he simply purchased out of a gas station. I never used it thinking that I will have time to spend the money. The card was purchased around June and when I tried to use it on December for Christmas shopping was not funds in the card.... I called them and customer service told me that every month was a $5 charge just to
keep the card active. This is definitely not a good experience with this card. Never we have issues with other cards. It's ridiculous that they are charging that amount for fee. Definitely not recomending this service at all. This company is a thief that stole my husband gift. Customer service was mean and disrespectful, couldn't find a solution for me when I called.… show more

Absolutely dreadful experience with these cards. You must activate using your entire life story and then they require you to send them documents with identification, social security numbers and information that would permit anyone to easily steal your identity and set up fake credit cards. Do not buy this product if you don't want your identity to be stolen.

CAUTION!
You will get hit with "SIGNATURE" fees for just about every transaction, EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO SIGN. I get charged $1 for starbucks to swipe my card for a $2 cup of joe, even though there is NO signature requirement.
VERY MISLEADING.
I strongly recommend looking into other cards if you use it like a cash card. I have already cut mine up.

I have been with WesternUnion Netspend Prepaid MasterCard for years now. Very pleased with the card services thus far. Customer service is very good whenever I need to speak to a Representative. I especially appreciate the overdraft protection feature.

Netspend Western Union is the WORST in customer service. The ONLY benefit to this card is getting paid 2 days faster but other companies offer that or it would be better to just wait the two days rather than getting this card. Every single time I call Netspend for ANYTHING either my card or my wife’s card gets deactivated and unable to use. Apparently at 6 pm EST everyone that works for Netspend leaves but
ONE little worker named Alex who is left by ALL BY HIMSELF ..no supervisor or mgmt is there to resolve issues or fix issues Netspend caused. It makes me really nervous to think that there is no other customer care than that, especially with the amount of money going into our account. Netspend has NO regard for customer safety or satisfaction. Do NOT open Netspend account for any reason. Google other prepaid cards and pick another as I promise you will eventually regret getting involved with this company… show more

The only thing I hate about this card that NETSPEND charges you when you call to get a balance (.50)per call ,, NETSPEND has all the major prepaid cards, you cant get help unless they charge you .50 cent , plus 9.95 monthly charge,, other then that I like using it because I have WU account.

You have to be "approved" for this card, which they do not let you know. I bought this card and put $200 on it to find out I couldn't even use it to pay the bill I needed paid! These people will steal your Mooney. They tell you that you're enrolled in the Premier Package, no fees for Pin transactions or Signature Transactions, but they charge those fees anyways because you didn't "OPT IN" (the mail never said anything about opting in. It SAID I was enrolled automatically. Then charging those fees that weren't supposed to be charged threw my account into overdraft. So, in top of the overdraft, there is also a $15
overdraft fee added on by netspend. They are stealing people's money. Avoid using this company. I'm about to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau as soon as I'm done typing this.… show more

I got this card for my dad so is easier for him to get the money I send him. I can't transfer money to it from Wells Fargo. I can't deposit money into the account with out the card, not even with the account number, the card has to be present. This restrictions are a big inconvenience. Yes, there are not fees unless he uses the ATM to check the balance or to withdraw.

When I first started to use the Western Union card, it was great and easy to ravel with. It was easy to use, and there were no problems. Then, someone stole my card, so I called the bank , and asked them to turn it off. They said that they were very busy at the moment, and that it might take a few hours! I was so angry and demanded that they switch it off
or all of my money would be gone. I got it switched off, but it was horrible and long experience.… show more

This Western Union® Prepaid MasterCard is very reliable. It has barely any fees so there are no surprises on bank statements. I think it is much safer putting money down and spending that money before spending credit. I would recommend this to any young or anyone who hasn't started building their credit. There are no activation fees and no monthly fees so it is safe.

About a couple of years ago me and my wife decided to build a house back in our home country India. So we contacted our family their and they said that they will get the builders and we can just send the money needed. Western Union was the choice that I went to. So I kept on sending money and that is when Western Union sends me this card. It had no activation fee or
monthly fee. I really fell in love with this card because I could use it sort of like cash. But the real downside was that if you wanted to do an ATM transaction it is two dollars and fifty cents so really it is not worth it to use this card as a debit card. Overall I loved this card.… show more

The Western Union Prepaid MasterCard is great in that it doesn't have an activation fees or monthly fees. Plus, no overdraft fees if you didn't load enough money on it. But you have to be weary that it's more like a debit card than a credit card because you have to load money on it instead of charging it and paying later. However, loading money on it is made easier with direct deposit. The other
reloading options are Western Union or Bank Transfer, which both require time and effort and could take a business day or so to process. One huge downside is that essentially everything you purchase will be $1 to $2 more because of the signature transaction and pin transaction fees, and a lot of businesses use one or the other. The ATM fee is another downside because it's $2.50 on top of whatever that ATM owner charges you to use it.… show more

The Western Union Prepaid MasterCard might be good if you are in a pinch and need to buy something online, but the signature and pin fees can really add up if you plan on using this as your primary payment method for transactions. This card also does not come with bill pay service. It does give you access to several third-party services, including Western Union, but I’d like to see a card that had the
service available without having to contact another company. The positives of this card are that this card is the fact that it does not have an activation fee or monthly fee, and that if offers the ability to set up direct deposit.… show more

The Western Union Prepaid Mastercard can be pretty good but you need to know what you're getting into. This isn't a normal card where you charge off of it and pay that back, you have to put your own money on the card and then use that. But it still counts towards your credit score so it can be a pretty nice way to build credit if you don't have any history. Plus since you're
using your own money there's no monthly fees or interest rates or any of that.
But, if you have the credit rating to get a different card, you'd be better off with that. Something that's more flexible, and has rewards and other features like that. Like the Discover Student card which has some nice benefits attached and a low interest rate.… show more

This card has some good and bad features to it. The good is that they do not charge an initial activation fee or a monthly fee. This is a great benefit for someone just starting out and not wanting to put down $50-100 to activate their card. Also, the zero monthly fee is a major benefit because many cards charge $9 and up each month. However, if you plan on using the card at all
you will accumulate fees quickly because of the pin free meaning if you use your pin code to make a purchase they charge a fee of $2. But on the other hand, if you decide to sign for your purchase, the good old fashioned way then you get a fee of $1. I would definitely recommend this card to someone that wants the secure feeling of having a card but not using it often. They don't charge an inactivity fee so this can be a good card if it is used seldom.… show more

This is a nice deal, overall, in that there are no monthly maintenance fees or activation fees. Those can be quite cumbersome. I don't like the ATM fees or transaction fees, however. I have always disliked Western Union's business model, and with the advent of Paypal I'm surprised that this company isn't already gone. This Western Union prepaid card boasts most of the same things that other prepaid cards offer, except for the fact that it seems like doing anything with the card itself will result in a fee. It is outrageous to think that every trip to the grocery store would add an extra $2 to
my total simply because my money is being routed through Western Union. This is a pretty disgusting business model, one that preys on the poor and those that are unable or unwilling to open a checking account through their local bank. No thanks.… show more

From reviewing this card, it seems to be a decent card. Compared to other monthly cards (Netspend and Rush Card) the no monthly fee is nice. Other cards charge sometimes $5.00 and will continue to take this funding even if there are no funds, that leaves the user in the negative. The free customer service is a bonus too. However the negative that I see is there no bill pay and a lot of people
get their paychecks direct deposited and do not have time or the ability to go elsewhere to pay bills. Many like the option of being able to pay bills with their credit cards-I know I do.… show more

I really don't think the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard is a good deal. A consumer would be better off getting a debit card at a local bank or credit union and putting in the money for bills that way. That will drastically cut down on the fees charged for use of your own money. Who in their right mind would pay $1 per non signature transaction and $2 per signature transaction- what a rip off.

The Western Union Prepaid MasterCard was perfect for me when I needed it. I had no trouble putting money on the card or getting money off it. Where there are some fees with this product, it is to be expected. There are other cards that offer about the same amount of quality and service. Overall, I would say this is an average card that meets your needs without taking too much out of you in
fees. I rate the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard at 3 out of 5 stars because it gives you what you would expect. It is not exceptional, but it does not disappoint you either. I would definitely use this product again and I would recommend it to anyone that needs similar services. The Western Union Prepaid MasterCard is a great way to start building your credit if you're new to this.
There are no traditional fees of any kind. Late payment, interest, etc. There are ATM transaction fees but these are standard for any card.
You can only spend what you put on there yourself. It's also a great way to keep spending in check.
Reliable company and card, you won't regret it.

From Western Union, a brand you can trust, comes a card you can use without worrying about spending money you don't have. If you have credit problems or spending problems this is probably a safe way to shop. The $9.95 monthly transaction fee is similar to the monthly fee that both my Walmart Money Card and debit card charges. On the other hand, this card does not appear to be charging a fee to load money on the card. The Walmart Money Card charges a $3 fee to load money on the card. This card is a little better off than my Walmart Money card, since it only charges a $5 monthly fee,
after loading at least $500 in a month, while the Walmart Money Card continues to charge the $9.95 monthly fee. The ATM fee for this card is cheaper than the $2 fee I have to pay, in order to use an ATM machine with my debit card. However, the signature fee and PIN fees are not charged by my bank for using my debit card. No overdraft fee is better than my debit account that does charge an overdraft fee. I suppose this card keeps charging the monthly fee, after you've stop using the card, but choose not to terminate the card. If so, this would be a major disadvantage, as compared to the Walmart Money Card, which seems to stop charging a fee, after you hit a negative balance and cannot bring your balance back to positive territory in the course of a month or more.… show more

If you've had problems with credit, Western Union Prepaid MasterCard could be a good way to get back on track. Because it's a prepaid card you will always know that you can afford the purchases that you're making. The fees are reasonable, especially if you set up a direct deposit of $100 monthly, then you can avoid paying a monthly fee. And even if you do have to pay the monthly fee, $2.95 is not

Western Union offers a solution to individuals with no or poor credit with their Prepaid MasterCard. There is really nothing bad to be said about this card. I have looked at other prepaid cards and their fees are higher. The READY debit Visa Prepaid Card charges a $9.95 monthly fee compared to Western Union’s $2.95 fee. The direct deposit of as little as $100 to waive the monthly fee is reasonable. I especially like that

My first reaction to the terms of this card were horror! But as I found out about the details, I am convinced that this card is a terrific stepping stone for people with bad credit to improve. This card is a very good option for people who have bad credit or are beginning to build up a credit from scratch. The monthly fee could be easily waived by a direct deposit of $100 or more which I think is easy for the majority of people, an even if someone can't waive it, it's really affordable. The Western Union Prepaid Mastercard has its benefits for those who have problems with credit, and need a safer option. This is a good card if you are looking to establish credit. I think there are too many fees (such as a monthly maintenance fee and a fee to cancel the account). However for someone who has a dream to buy a house and they do not have enough credit, they would probably leap at this opportunity. They will either pay now, or later with a higher interest rate and pay apartment rent for a
longer period of time. Personally, I do not have a prepaid credit card. I do have a typical credit card through Barclays Bank, and I like that I can pay off the bill each month and not have to worry about fees. Plus if I decide to close my account, it would be free.… show more
