Why is my credit score important?

Your credit score directly affects your ability to borrow money and the cost associated with doing so. It also reflects your overall credit standing, which impacts your ability to rent an apartment, your chances of being hired for certain jobs and even the insurance premiums that you must pay.

What affects your credit score?

Credit scores are based on the information in your credit reports. That means anything added to those reports stands to affect your credit score one way or another. Factors such as payment history and amounts owed are particularly impactful, accounting for roughly 65% of your score.

Why does WalletHub need my SSN?

We need your Social Security number to locate your credit report and to ensure that you, and only you, will be able to view your personal financial information. In most cases, you will only have to provide the last four digits of your SSN for us to accomplish this.

Will checking my credit on WalletHub hurt my credit score?

Not at all. You can check your credit score at WalletHub as often as you’d like without hurting it in the slightest. That because it’s considered a “soft” inquiry when you check your own credit score, whereas applying for a loan or line of credit generates a hard inquiry.

Why is WalletHub the best credit score site?

WalletHub is the best place to check your credit score because it is the only website/app with free daily credit score updates.

What is a good credit score?

Anything above 700 generally qualifies as at least a good credit score. Having good or excellent credit enables you to get the best terms on loans, lines of credit and insurance policies. It also pays important dividends in other aspects of life.

Don’t worry, though. When you check your credit score on WalletHub, we’ll tell you exactly which creditworthiness tier you belong to and how to improve. You can also learn more about what a good credit score is, how to get it and what it gets you from this article.

How often does a credit score change?

Your credit score can change whenever new information gets added to your major credit reports. All credit scores are based on them. And lenders generally send updated account information to the bureaus on a monthly basis. But collections accounts, negative public records and other new info can be added at any time.

That’s why it’s so important to have access to your latest credit score. And only WalletHub offers free credit scores that are updated on a daily basis.

How fast can you raise your credit score?

You can raise your credit score in a matter of weeks. One of the easiest ways to do so is to reduce your credit utilization. It’s reported to the major credit bureaus on a monthly basis and is an important ingredient in your credit score. You can reduce it by paying down debt and/or spending less.

You can also see exactly how to improve your credit score and how long it will take on your Credit Analysis page.

2018 Credit Scores & iPhone Launch Survey

The release of each new iPhone model is a big-money occasion. Not just for Apple, the world's largest company by market capitalization and a new Warren Buffet favorite. But also for consumers, who will reportedly be asked to shell out up to $1,400 for the new device at a time when credit card debt is approaching record highs. The key, it seems, is that credit scores are at lofty historical levels, too. In other words, installment plans and other financing arrangements will help the iPhone remain as popular as ever into its second decade.

But how much do consumers really know about the connection between their credit scores and monthly cell phone bills? Do we care more about our phones than our credit scores?

To answer all of those questions and more, WalletHub performed a nationally representative survey of American consumers. You can find the results in the following infographic.
