The eighties called and want their bank back.
About three years ago, I refinanced my mortgage and, about as soon as the ink was dry on my re-fi, I got a letter in the mail stating it had been sold to 5/3. Whatever, I thought; one auto-draft is as good as another.
After a month of paying by phone I requested to get put on auto-draft. “We’ll send you something in the mail to do that.”. When I asked if they could email it to me, they said “sure.”. No email came. I attempted to get their online banking; the sign up screens didn’t even give an option for mortgage customers.
It’s now been three years of paying by phone like an tool. Four separate “we’ll send you a form for that in the mail” confirmations. In January I got Covid and forgot to call them on time, because I was sick and, frankly, even my small town’s water bill is easier to pay. When I requested to remove the late and get me on auto-draft, guess what I finally got.
Mail. From Fifth-Third. Telling me they wouldn’t reverse the first late payment on my credit in fifteen years. So the good news is I’ve finally confirmed they can send mail.
The bad news is their payment department is probably some 90 year old bookkeeper with an abacus.
They’ve impacted my ability to get another mortgage. Which impacts my ability to give my family a decent rate on a new home. Your options are your mortgage being bought by 5/3 or ISIS, from what I hear ISIS recruits online now so at least they’ll probably be able to take a payment.

If you make a payment in 2 or more installments, they leave the balance as unapplied on your mortgage then report you for a late payment, even though you have paid in full. And they charge you a late fee on top of that when the funds have been sitting on the account for weeks. We occationally have made payment on the mortgage from different bank accounts due to where we have our pay checks split.

Absolutely the worst bank ever. Unacceptable customer service and no organization. They lost the monthly check from my bank and blame me for their incompetence. To make things worse, I receive 2 or more phone calls a day and they hang up on me half the time. After 15 confirmations of my email, they still can't send me an email. Probably because they do not want a visual of how terrible an experience they provide.

Worst customer service I've ever encountered. The representatives are incompetent and ignore and talk over you from a written script. Constantly getting disconnected when I try to call in.
Hoping they sell my mortgage to another servicer so I can get them out of my life!

The worst bank ever! My mortgage was sold to them, and I cannot begin to tell you how awful they are. DO NOT USE THEM. Horrid customer service, you cannot pay off your difference if say your home owners ins. goes up, and you want to pay the difference to keep your mortgage payment the same. They won’t allow you to. So you’re stuck paying it over the course of a year, plus they OVERCHARGE the difference so your actually paying more that your supposed to. Their reasoning is, well if at the end of the year we own you we will credit you. I’ve never heard of this and it’s disgusting. Upped my mortgage 850.00 for the year because my homeowners went up 400! The other 400 they say is a “buffer” I call it stealing. NEVER USE THEM! I hope they go out of business.

My loan was sold to this company, and I am very disappointed with the level of customer service and flexibility for payments. I always pay on time and typically prefer to set up auto pay to make 100% sure that everything goes through in a timely manner. Unfortunately when this company got a hold of my loan and got it transferred to them, they didn't have any of the information about me, so it took me calling them in order for them to even have my contact information. After spending an hour on the phone sorting things out, I finally got an online payment portal set up to actually pay my mortgage. However, even after that it has not been smooth sailing. There is absolutely no easy way to set up recurring auto payments for my mortgage loan , unless it is through an account associated with their bank. I have no desire to get a brand new banking account just for my mortgage loan, and I don't understand why it is so difficult for me to set up auto payment through a non-5/3 bank account. At this point I talked to their customer service team way more than I have any of my loan servicers to date, and on top of it I don't have auto pay set up. I finally gave up. Called up my own bank and got them to set up bill pay, but even that took almost an hour on the phone with my bank to try to figure out what fifth third actually wanted from me. I typically don't leave reviews for things, but this is incredibly frustrating especially for something so important as paying your mortgage on time. I wish there was a way to transfer who owns and services my loan because this is not acceptable.

Very unsatisfied with their online banking, if you make a payment over the weekend there is no way to trace it or get any confirmation, and if you create another payment to be sure it went through they have no way to return the payment before 10 days

Set your expectations low for Fifth Third Bank and you won't be disappointed. After paying an invoice for an escrow increase on a mortgage, the monthly payment still slightly increased by $43. I incorrectly and admittedly sent in the prior payment amount and FifthTurd decided to accept and deposit the payment but not apply the payment to my account. The entire principle and interest amount was correct. Only the escrow amount had to be corrected, and the escrow disbursement wasn't due for another four months. I paid the $43 via FifthTurd's website the same day I was notified of the issue. But, FifthTurd refused to exercise any common sense in helping resolve the issue. FifthTurd deposited my payment but still acted as if I missed the entire payment. All of this for a $43 shortage in escrow that wouldn't be paid out for another four months. After being disconnected a couple times and working through their phone tree every time even the supervisor claimed to have no discretion. I had no choice in getting FifthTurd for the mortgage, but when I do have a choice, FifthTurd will be my last choice.
