The M&T Mortgage department is so swamped they are not getting back to customers. This in not good service and tough to take for a long-term customer. I hope management is aware of the situation, For now I have to begin looking elsewhere,
When I purchased my home the mortgage was through Starkey and about a year then it was sold to Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo had our mortgage for probably another year before it was sold to M&T. Never had a problem with escrow or anything else until M&T came into the picture. A month after the transfer, which I had no say in, I was getting letters saying my escrow was short by $4,000. My total escrow was less than $4,000. I let them know I would have to split up the payments but they won't accept split payments. I then changed my homeowners insurance to a rate that was less than half of what I had before and let M&T know to recalculate our escrow. My new insurance company contacted them also. Not only did they NOT recalculate our new escrow, they now want the total escrow amount plus two months extra. If I had known that I would have paid my homeowners insurance for the year since that would have been cheaper than having it come out of escrow. This sounds shady to me and I'm doing everything I can to refi with another company. Stay away from M&T.
Just had the 2nd time of the worst customer service and terrible policies. After I struggled to even get ahold of them for a half hour. They tell me they cant help that they are taking money out of my account early, leaving me with overdraft fees. Then they cant give me the date I want to take the money directly from my account.
I wouldn't recommend this bank to anyone I don't even care about. These guys will rip you off and harrass you for their enjoyment. What a sick, miserable and disgusting excuse for a business. How does the government allow these people continue.
This is the worst mortgage company I have ever dealt with. Unfortunately, they purchased our mortgage and now we are stuck with them until we can refinance. They constantly mess up our escrow. Last fall, my taxes went to 0.08 cents. I knew that was an error - so I called them. I had to request an "escrow review" to see if there was a mistake. YUP. Someone put the tax amount in wrong. Ya think? So, I harassed their horrific customer service for 3 months about this, and finally got to pay all my taxes in a lump sum to catch up my escrow account so my taxes could be paid. Think that's the end of it? No. They said my escrow account was $350. over (also last fall), so they sent me a check I never cashed. Huh? How could be it be over when I paid to catch up a shortage? Never mind. Now my escrow account is $141 short. 3 months later. Recap: They took out zero taxes for escrow, and never caught it. I did. They made me pay a lump sum to catch up for their error. Then they said they sent me a check for $350. that I never cashed, for an escrow overage. Then they said I had a shortage of $141 in my escrow account. Calling customer service is a joke. Expect to wait on hold for a good 20 minutes before some bored know-it-all answers the phone. BTW, they couldn't care less. Oh - and only the last 4 statements can be viewed online. This company is inept. They buy mortgages then screw your life up.
Took over our loan from Wells Fargo. They are terrible and hard to get a hold of. Immediately told me that they were sharing my personal information, and I would have to jump through hoops to opt out. Don't use this bank.
I do not have auto payments set up for my mortgage. My grace period is until the 15th. These maniacs called me on January 3rd in regards to my monthly payment. They call everyday if you don’t pay. I’m testing it to see. Today is Feb 12th. They started on the 4th this month. The top managers making these decisions to have customer service employees make these daily calls within grace periods are deplorable. Worst bank ever. Can’t wait to see the news report when they fold. Suntrust of the North.
Would love to give them zero stars. I had a mortgage with them for seven years never had a late or missed payment. When I sold my house they gave me a payoff number and told me not to pay the next payment because then the payoff would change. A month after I sell my home they report me to credit burea for a late payment. Contacted them and said it’s out of their control. So they can’t even control their own business what a joke. Local branch shut down near me hope they all close I will never do business with them again and recommend no one else does
The fact that you can't control which bank sells and buys your mortgage is irritating, but dealing with M&T has been one headache after another. The straw that broke this camel's back was a request to verify my SSN. They actually sent me a W-9 filled out with my full name, address, and full SSN, requesting my signature to verify it. Who is that careless with PII? The last insult was giving me an envelop to return that paperwork in without any postage.
