In a previous life I worked with a lot of banks nationwide to process payments, and was generally fairly happy with SSFCU (fairly prompt on checks or paperwork, and good customer service), so I was cool with getting a home loan with them. The initial loan officer was fine, but we had to level set with communications, and once we were good there, no problems. Towards the closing I had multiple problems with getting an actual closing date, which meant time spent on the phone at least a half dozen times with just my insurance to get new policy dates set. The processor was great, but the closer was just no good. We had a LOT of miscommunication, and days went by without phone calls or emails. Other times the phone calls happened I would be at work and not able to take them right away, and of course, no one's there to answer when I call back, and then slow replies via email. The paperwork ended up being a mess, and we had to sign almost every mortgage document twice electronically, then ended up having to sign the entire packet twice because of a clerical error on their part. Fast forward a few months, and it's a complete pain in the ass using their website. There was a candidate portal when you first sign up for an account that's completely different from your actual account portal, which in turn is different from your loan portal. Oh, and did I mention there's another completely different portal to make payments online? Oh, because there is. Joy. Each layer of login requires completely different password guidelines, by the way, but you better not use any special characters on just one of those. Oh and to do ACH, you have to complete a form BY HAND and send it back? Just gorgeous. Keep in mind, this is all when the site is responding. I've had more issues just trying to navigate to ssfcu.org sometimes, because it times out fairly consistently; and that worries me when you're making transactions. While I'm currently ok with the loan as is, because we got a good rate, if I get a chance to re-fi and jump ship I probably will. I'm kinda disappointed because I thought they'd be better than this. My credit union back home is definitely a 1 star, so having that comparison is why SSFCU isn't getting that at least, but they're not off to a great start for me.
Applied for a mortgage. Was approved and after 30 days and me having to get updates on the progress. Was denied and the loan officers response was my debt to ratio. I had a house under contract and spent money on inspections etc. ..So that is mortgage 101. The first is debt to ratio to even qualify for a loan amount. I was warned that ssfcu has terrible service but now I learned inexperienced loan officers and underwriters. What a waist of my money and time.
TERRIBLE customer service! We used them for a land to construction loan, and the ability to get your interest rate up front was the only reason we choose them. The rep was constantly pushing timelines out and almost cost us the land, after we had sold and moved into a rental. When I asked for a manager twice and was never responded to, I felt it necessary to warn others of this company. Do not use them!
I submitted a mortgage application on June 14, 2017. I applied for the Power Mortgage, because of the advertised $5000 towards closing costs. I was pre-approved for $260,000. On June 21st, we found a home, made an offer and it was accepted. On July 19th, I received final approval and closing disclosure. After reviewing the documents and getting clarification from the mortgage closer(because my loan officer was not taking my calls or responding to my emails) I realized the lender was only covering $1625.10 out of the $5000 towards closing costs. I have been trying to get answers and clarification on my options and keep going in circles. I've asked for other loan options and they say it'll push the closing date out a week. I thought this was a good company but I guess I was wrong!

In the event that in a given week, for this product, there were multiple applicable rates in our database based on different criteria, the above graph reflects the lowest interest rate recorded. Before submitting an application, always verify with the issuing institution (i.e. bank, credit union, other lender) the rates, fees, and all terms and conditions accompanying the application.
