A few months ago I saw an add for GreenDot cards saying free to sign up cash back when swipped etc. signed up and go the card in the mail for my account. Went to go activate the card and it says my card number is Incorrect. To this day I get emails saying to activate my card ending in **** the card I received was a different number. So I didn’t care about it and pushed it away. At the same time my fiancé got his card and activated it fine. Today he got his first direct deposit on it and went to pay some bills but the card was declined. We tried logging into the app and it said “you’re account has been blocked” his whole paycheck was locked. So he called and they asked for his name address birthday and phon number. Of course we couldn’t remember what phone number we had used but we knew we could see it if we could log into the account on the app, but it was blocked, they refused to give us any solution until we provided the number. After talking on the phone for 20 minutes we tried to log in again and magically our account was unblocked. We got the number and they said that they had revived our deposit but they had to “verify” it and put a hold on our account and said wait up to 4 hours. We had shit to pay and needed the money to get it done. About 10 minutes after my boyfriend Angrily hung up on the man the money was magically available for use. Rather get a papercheck. Switching direct deposit and never using again.
Green Dot blocks your account for various reasons and is hassle to get unblocked. Going on a week because I had a new direct deposit. You play 20 questions to verify your account when every time you call. Then get told that no supervisor is available, you will have to call back. And when you do get a supervisor you play 20 questions with them.
GoBank is an excellent bank for those with limited income and less banking activity. It's very easy to open a GoBank checking account online or on your mobile device. They let you choose your own monthly service fee and you can deposit checks right over your mobile device as long as it is self focusing. At the time they don't provide you with paper checks but that is coming soon. In the meantime, you can order a check to be sent to a payee by logging into your account. I had to phone them one time. The automated phone system was a little difficult to work with, however, the customer service rep was friendly and professional. Oh yeah, they do have free atm machines in most areas and free deposits can be made at wal-mart, k-mart and 7-11 stores. Overall I think it's a great, nationally based bank.
