My husband and I just purchased a new home and we decided that we should shop around for a new homeowner's insurance policy. Farmers Insurance had the coverage we wanted and the best rate quote out of all of the insurance companies we contacted. We went through the website and were put in touch with a local agent to apply, which was much easier than we expected. Usually insurance applications are ridiculously long and tedious, but Farmers wasn't too bad. So far, we're very happy with our coverage and rates through Farmers, although we obviously haven't made a claim or had any major issues since it's a new policy.
I absolutely love Tobyhanna Federal Credit Union. They are hands down the best bank or credit union that I have ever done business with. I'm a NEPA native, but I hadn't ever dealt with Toby FCU until I got married and my husband already had an account through them. Compared with other banks and credit unions in the area, they have the lowest fees and charges, and their web banking site is very easy to use. I do most of my banking and transactions online, so a practical online banking interface is very important to me. I haven't found anything that I don't like about TFCU so far.
I have a savings account through Penn East, and I have been very happy with the company and the account. The terms were well laid-out when I opened the account, and the rates were the best in the area for both CDs and savings accounts. I haven't opened any other accounts with Penn East, but they frequently send out information about other accounts and loan products with great rates. I've only been into the local branch in Scranton a few times, as I usually do most of my banking transactions online, but it is a very nice location with decent staff available for help if you need it.
My husband and I have had Allstate car insurance for several years and we have been very happy with our service to date. We've each sold and purchased cars while we have had coverage through Allstate and we had no problem changing over policies from one car to another. We haven't had any accidents, so I can't comment on the claim process, but every time we've had to call the company for another reason, we've received excellent customer service. Our local agent knows us and our family, and always treats us very kindly. Our rates are on average with most insurance companies and we love that we get a discount for having more than one policy.
I currently have State Farm insurance for my home owner's policy and I am very happy with the service I've received over the past few years. I originally used State Farm because my parents had several policies through the company and the local office came highly recommended from them and several other friends in the area. Signing up was fairly easy, although I had some issues with paperwork being lost in the mail during the process. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the customer service I've received, as well as how my calls or problems are handled each time I contact the office. Our local office has great hours, too.
I had insurance through Safe Auto for several years when I was younger and in college. I chose the company because of their low rates, and was never disappointed. I got great prices for the different cars that I had on the policy over the years. I liked the different payment options that were available, and I never had a bad experience when calling in to customer service. I added and dropped at least 4 or 5 cars in the years that I had coverage through Safe Auto, and as a result spoke to quite a few different representatives. I was always surprised at how nice and friendly their staff was, as I didn't really expect it from the company.
Wayne Bank is well known in Honesdale, and I've had both a checking and a savings account with them over the years. When I was a child, my parents opened a savings account for me through Wayne Bank, and I later opened my own checking account as well. Their main street location is quite attractive and very easy to access. I've always been treated very considerately at the Honesdale branch. Opening my checking account was simple, and I had everything filled out and finished in one trip, probably only about 15 or 20 minutes. Their online banking is adequate, no real frills, but perfectly functional. Savings rates are typical for the area, and are fairly competitive overall.
I opened an account with Fidelity when I was in college, as it was the closest bank to my campus and they had an ATM on the campus. I had both a checking and savings account with Fidelity, and both accounts were opened in a matter of minutes. Several years later, when I needed to change my name, due to marriage, and add my husband to the account, the staff were friendly and helpful, and completed everything rather quickly. Interest rates for savings accounts are average for the area (northeastern PA), and their checking account options are pretty standard. Some of the branches near me have coin counting machines in the lobby, which I used many times (especially when I was still in college) and they are free for anyone with an account. And the location on Greenridge Street is worth visiting - it's more of a lounge and lobby than a bank (think big screen TV, mini-fridge and comfy chairs).
I opened an account with FIB when I worked for ChaCha and had the account for about five years. Opening an account is incredibly easy and almost any transaction can be completed completely online. I had a few issues with my debit card (not the fault of the bank, just a defective card) and the customer service responded quickly and mailed me a new (and thankfully working) Visa card. I've never called the customer service phone line, but the e-mail support is better than I expected, with a fast turn around time. One unique feature is FIB will provide you with postage-paid envelopes to complete deposits by mail. I used this program several times over the years and was really appreciative of it, considering that I lived in PA and the bank was in Indiana. FIB is an all-around decent bank that is very easy to work with.
Honesdale National is a great local bank, and there really are not many of them left in the area, so I truly appreciate it. Their employees do actually care, and are very helpful when you need to rely on them. The bank offers decent savings rates, as well as standard checking accounts and other basic services. The CD rates that I've gotten from HNB have been on par with other local banks. I really like their online banking interface, and the whole system is very easy to use, compared with a few others that I've encountered in the past. Overall, Honesdale National is a very good bank, with good practices that can make you feel confident in your bank.
I have had several accounts with Citi over the years, including a student loan and a credit card. The best part about Citi is the application process - I did everything online for both of my last accounts through Citi and it made it so much easier. I liked the instant confirmation for my applications, and how quick I got a response on both my credit card and my student loan. I only ever had one issue with my student loan, and after about twenty minutes on the phone with a representative, I had everything straightened out. Although I usually prefer to deal with smaller local banks, Citibank served me rather well for what I needed.
I've had several accounts through PNC, as does my husband, and we've both had very positive experiences with the bank. Whenever an issue has popped up, customer service has been relatively timely in getting back to us, and has always addressed the problem completely. We were disappointed each time that the PNC Points program was scaled back, because we benefited from it and liked the rewards, but it is rather understandable with the current economy. I love all of the features on the PNC website - their online banking is very easy to use and comes in very handy. Also, my local branch office regularly has community events, free coffee, etc. that set them apart from other banks in the area.
