I live in Louisiana and when Hurricane Katrina hit, I learned the importance of having a good homeowner’s insurance company. I was one of the fortunate ones and was covered by State Farm Insurance at the time of the hurricane. My house was not flooded, but I did have a lot of damage when a tree took out my roof and much of my fence in the backyard. State Farm had agents on the ground in a hurry and the damage on my home was assessed very quickly. I was able to get the money that I needed to repair my home, but the big surprise came in the help they gave me while I had to evacuate. We were out of our house for over a month and during that time State Farm helped us pay for the hotel room, meals and other expenses. My agent was very helpful even though he had to evacuate from his home. State Farm stopped selling new policies after the storm, but they did not drop their existing customers. I have stuck with State Farm just like they stuck behind me when I needed it most.
I have been a member of the Greater New Orleans Federal Credit Union for over 20 years and am proud to do business with them. The credit union offers many advantages over the large banks that have become so prevalent. I enjoy the fact that the people in the bank know who I am when I enter the bank and am treated in a way that makes me feel like I am important to them. While the credit union is not my primary bank, I have no intention of closing any of my accounts and am glad to have opened up savings accounts for both of my sons. The hours of operation can be restrictive, but it is a minor inconvenience that is easy to live with.
When I turned 16 and got my driver's license, I was added to my father's policy. That policy was with Allstate. That was almost 25 years ago and I am still insured by Allstate. Over the years, I have checked with other companies and even gotten quotes from them. If I could have gotten the same coverage for a cheaper rate, I might have switched, but that has never happened. Instead I have found that Allstate has always provided me with the insurance that I need for my vehicle. The one time I did get into an accident, the car was fixed and paid for quickly which I was grateful for. My policy has also helped me pay for a few cracked windshields also. My teenage son will be getting his license in the next year and will be covered by Allstate on my policy. It is a relationship that I hope he will find worth continuing for as long as I have.
I have been a Chase customer for about 4 years and during that time have been very impressed not only with their diversity of products, but also with the attention they give to customer service. I recently had to open a high school checking account for my son. The amount of money in this account was going to be minimal, but the representative took all the time that was needed to not only open the account, but to also make sure my son understood how the account worked and how he could use it. This level of service is a good example of why Chase is the bank that many people seem to prefer and goes way beyond the idea that a bank is only looking to make money. In my case at least they proved that they were looking out for my best interests and don't just about the money.
