There's not much good going on in Central Falls these days, but it's one of the places Dexter Credit Union has always called home and stays loyal to. They will welcome you as a customer. This is another one of the excellent small, localized bank chains in Rhode Island that gives everybody equal treatment. In high school, they were great in helping me in learn the ropes regarding financial responsibility and were a favorite of my father’s as well, which is who introduced me to them in the first place. I never had anything that even could come close to being interpreted as a problem with them. They were always direct with me and got what I wanted done quickly.
It would be great if they stretched out a little bit to make them a more viable option in SC, but I can't give a company an outright bad review for not being everywhere. Should you be in the areas that Carolina Bank offers its services, you'll find them fair and comparable with anything else you've experienced. I used them to invest some of my funds; they're very adept at figuring out what it is you expect to get from your money and the time frame you expect to get it in. So far my investment is looking pretty promising, and I haven't been irrelevant since walking out their door. They still keep me updated on a pseudo-regular basis.
These guys were the ones who initially helped me get a credit card early in my career and be responsible for my own finances. It was something I and my father had worked out so that by the time I was out on my own, I wouldn't dig myself into any holes. The process was a little confusing but frankly that may have been due to being so new at it. I do recall the representative working with me being beyond patient, despite the fact it took me nearly a half hour to get through everything and I'm sure internally I was driving them nuts. As the name implies their branches don't stretch over a very big area, but should you find yourself in it, I think this can be a primary credit union for you, and it's certainly a good additional option to whatever you may currently be utilizing. About as genuine as they come these days.
While transitioning from one state to another I was forgetful about my car insurance and realized one day that my current plan was literally expiring that day. I called up a local Allstate agent and spoke to them for about ten minutes explaining my situation and giving them the needed data about me and my car. They said they'd go call my previous insurance company to get things set up and call me back, which they did within a half hour. And that was that, I was good to go and had everything I needed in my inbox. A few months in I've had zero issues with them and have found the price to be fair. The speed in which they got a “I need this” request done for me was better than I could have hoped for, I was expecting a long day on the phone and instead only had to spend a few minutes twice within an hour window. These guys get it done and they get it done fast.
A credit union dishing out loans that aren't a ripoff? Could this be? Actually yes! I don't use RICU anymore because of location reasons, but these guys really helped me out while I was finishing getting my degree. I needed a checking account anyway which took a nice chunk out of the bite of the rate on a small loan that I needed. Very knowledgeable and warm staff that almost literally won't let you sign any documents until they're positive you know what it is you're signing. Whether that's because they don't want to deal with baseless complaints later or they truly care about their customers that much I can't say, frankly I don't care because it treated me very well. If you're in the area I'd advise at the very least walking in and having a chat.
These guys are cutting edge are trying to get you in and out of there. The customer service is what you'd expect, whether it's genuine or insincere you'll never get treated like anything but somebody they're glad to see. The drive through services are set up in a way that tries to get people through as quickly as possible, which isn't perfect because drive throughs always stall but it's as good as you're going to get. I and my fiance use them, either of us has ever run into any issues. If you want reliable service that is explained to your clearly online before you show up, you're near assured going to get it here.
When I had renters insurance through State Farm a few years ago frankly I found it pretty confusing initially, but in all fairness that probably had more to do with me than them. I was new to the concept having lived with my parents until then. Thankfully, they were very thorough and almost insisted on me asking every question I could come up with for them to clarify it for me. They've been comparable in price to everything I've dealt with since, never drastically above or below the other quotes, they're always in the same ballpark. One of my favorite parts of the experience with them I've learned to appreciate a lot more since is that they don't harass you to tack on more policies constantly like some other companies I've had. They'll try to get you to include more once or twice and once you tell them you aren't interested they knock it off, which I wish I could say about my current provider.
Really, there's little to complain about with these guys in regards to obtaining home insurance, what it costs you, and what's covered versus what isn't. I had no headaches with any of these aspects which are significantly more important than the one that irritates me. If you get Allstate, prepare yourself for getting the same letter in the mail multiple times a month, every month trying to get you to add your car to your plan. After there's no response there, you'll start getting calls trying to get you to do the same thing. It took me about four months of progressively less patient responses before they got the idea and stopped. So, overall they're good, albeit annoying. If you actually want your car covered by them too then I guess that part won't even be an issue for you.
They've always worked with me to make sure I'm paying as little as possible and only getting the specific coverage I want. Finishing up college (and barely being out of it) I didn't have the funds for extensive coverage in either case, which Progressive respected and didn't try to push anything additional on me. This is a great company from my experience, it's rare to find a company that is satisfied and can bring themselves to say "okay" when you explain you're only looking for liability coverage. Going off of that, I'd assume they're great if you're looking for more extensive coverage as well. I'll find out once my financial situation is a little better, as they've given me no reason to look elsewhere.
I have a secondary account here that I use mainly for me and my mother to swap money back and forth with when we need a little help. It isn't what I use to pay my bills or anything of that magnitude, but I've always appreciated how accommodating they've been regarding the use of the account. A lot of banks will give you a hard time for an account that doesn't have a lot of money in it and is frequently going up to something substantial only for it to be taken out at another location a few hours later. I received one e-mail a long time ago about "suspicious activity" but that's really been it, they've let us go as we please for years.
I switched to another bank out of necessity when moving, but had virtually no problems with Washington Trust during my time with them. I had one minor issue obtaining some temporary checks when waiting for a new booklet, but that was resolved in less than five minutes talking to a teller and was really the only problem I had with them over the course of a decade. Fees are clearly defined up front, but in many cases if dealing with a representative in person later on, they will reiterate what you are agreeing to during some transactions to double check and make sure you don't get blindsided by anything. Very cordial and were they more of a presence in my current location, I'd probably still be with them.
Quickest sign up for a bank I've had and I've really had no issues since. They allowed me to pick only the services I wanted without having to add any services I had no desire to use, and were very thorough to ensure I wouldn't cause myself additional fees. I got a very cool Red Sox themed debit card about two weeks after signing up. I don't know why more banks don't try to utilize their ATMs, I like seeing the receipt have the checks right on it in case I need proof of them when something goes wrong, which to this point nothing has. Even when I forgot my PIN on my card they had it reset within about 20 minutes of showing up at my local branch.
