I can remember being a young girl and my dad talking about how great he found State Farm insurance to be. Most members of my own family have State Farm insurance. I have had State Farm insurance for my vehicle, as well as my home, for almost 15 years now. I have always received great customer service and been able to contact a State Farm representative or agent with prompt ease. My calls are returned in a timely manner, and agents gather information quickly. I was the victim of a hit and run accident earlier this Spring, and I was able to take my car to get fixed the next day due to the swift response of my agent's office. I had no issues getting a rental vehicle for the duration my car was being fixed, and I had no problems with the claim. I find State Farm to be reliable and diligent, and they deserve the good reputation that they have.
I have had a Wells Fargo account since 1999, when they were still Wachovia. I opened a joint checking account with my husband in 1999. We used this account to pay bills, and we had one direct deposit going into this account every week up until last Fall. I have always found the customer service to be decent, nothing exceptional but nothing horrendous. I don't recall having any issues with them. Since they were acquired by Wells Fargo, we continued to bank with them. However, they recently imposed a fee for not having at least one direct deposit or minimum balance maintained. This fee is $5. I don't feel a basic checking account should have such fees associated with them, especially when there are other banks that don't require this. In these difficult economic times, every saved dollar helps. Charging fees such as this one does not provide me with any incentive to keep banking with Wells Fargo. We have since closed the account.
