I recently moved into the Northeast and I wanted a local small bank that is close. I had a number of options but I went with Eagle One. They are a nonprofit bank that has low fees that is located right on Frankford ave which is awesome. They have a very nice website which is always a scary thing when you go to a small bank that the website will be trash but this website is fully functional. Also a couple of weeks ago in a pinch I needed a small loan for a small renovation. I was worried I wouldn't get it because I have not been with them long but they gave it to me with a very small interest rate which is awesome. I couldn't recommend this credit union enough. Linda is an awesome worker and person.
Grange Insurance is a very solid insurance company. I shopped for insurance when I bought my house and they were easy to deal with. There were many options to go with but I chose Grange because they were the cheapest, even though I had never heard of them. This made me a little scared but I was happy with the performance one year later. The only time I had to file a claim, I completed an online form on Sunday night and got a call Monday. I ended up not needing to use the claim but it was still nice that they were there for me. They are a perfectly fine insurance company.
I love Ally bank. It’s a very easy to use internet only bank that has CDs and auto loans. It used to be GMAC bank. They have a good interface on their website. The website is very easy and secure to use. They give quality rates on your saving accounts but I mostly used it for transfers in between banks because they give you more transfer than the other banks. The only thing I still currently use it for is the certificate of deposit. The CD that I have has a great rate and the penalty for early cashing in is not too bad.
I first joined ING direct when they had huge rates for their savings account. I still have an ING direct even though that is no longer the case. Now, they are a very good bank and I have never had a bad experience with them. There are no fees with the account which is nice compared to other banks. All I have to do is use my phone to take a picture of my check and it gets applied to my account; it’s nice to not have to go to the bank or anything. They did just get bought by capital one so I don't know if they will continue their quality.
The first car insurance that I ever had was from Progressive. I got my license kind of late in life and was scared I was going to have to pay a crazy fee because I never had insurance before but I went to Progressive’s website and got a quote and I was surprised by how cheap it was. I haven't had to contact them much but I put my address in wrong and they quickly sent me a new card because of my error. I like how I don't have to call anybody and I can do pretty much everything through their website. They are fine for a nice cheap insurance.
Wells Fargo is my primary local bank they are so many of them that its not hard to ever find them and i got one right down the street from my house. I have a checking account with them and a mortgage through them. The checking account would have fees but since i have a mortgage with them they are waived which is really nice. They are a nice bank to have because you can do everything from the computer and you barely ever have to go to the bank i use direct despot for my checks and i can transfer money through their website. Its a nice bank that has friendly people at it.
When I first moved to Philadelphia I was unsure what bank to go with. When somebody suggested I give PFCU a try. I went ahead and I did and I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of signing up and because I am used to banks nickel and diming you all the time. They have no fees on the checking account that I use which I would not get anywhere else. They also have a number of locations in the city so I am never far away from one. They always know my name when I go to the local one and that makes me feel like a value customer.
