No credit card needed
I usually hate store cards but my computer died and I needed some quick financing and best buy was offering a very attractive deal, a percentage off the computer and no finance charges if paid in the 15 months. I had zero problems with the card, was able to talk to a real person and resolve an issue when I had it. I had planned on canceling it after I paid off the computer but I was so happy I'll keep it. The interest rates and financing fees are high but everything is transparent so just keep an eye on the details and it's a great option. I've come across a few in store geek squad and troubleshooting deals as well so it's definitely worth it if you're often shopping for electronics.
I've been with bank of america for over 15 years. I started our with my first checking account and now I have advanced business services with them. I've definitely had mixed experiences over the years but the reason I stay with them and recommend them is the customer service at local branches. You can go in and sit down with a real person who knows the system and will work with you to resolve any issues, set things up, etc. It may take awhile but you have an actual friendly person advocating for you. Because of this I stay with bank of america. Over the years I've taken my investments (IRAs, CDs, etc) elsewhere for higher rates and would not pursue anything other than a business loan with them but they will always have my business for their branch customer service. Online services, smartphone applications, live chat etc are all very helpful and I'm able to get what I need done. They're a little overzealous on the fraud protection but I guess that's a good problem to have. Small business services are also great!
Before I had a dedicated business credit card and needed to fly constantly when setting up my business this was a great card. I'm a loyal Southwest airlines customer so why not save on flights. Some credit cards make it difficult to redeem travel points but this was always a simple process and I've already used it to receive quite a few flights. They frequently have opportunities to accrue additional points like when redeeming for airport services, rental cars, hotels etc. There is an annual fee but if you're looking for a card to redeem for Southwest air travel you can't beat this great card. Online banking is easy to use and customer service has always been friendly and helpful the few times I've contacted them.
This is a great card for small business owners. I shopped around extensively before signing up and was surprised to discover how little incentives exist with big name cards. This card is terrific, what you see is what you get and they always deliver. You don't have to mess around with points, you just get great savings. The savings on gas was actually a lifesaver as a start up company that involved incessant travel throughout the state. Customer service is friendly, personable and always willing to help you solve any problem or just answer questions without being tied to a script. I am so pleased I will use Ink services to sign up for any additional personal credit cards I need and I won't hesitate to recommend them to all my fellow small business owners.
This was my first experience with a credit union and a great one. I was really naive to the world of credit and had no idea how to qualify for a car loan. I suddenly found myself juggling student loans, credit cards, rent and car loans without knowing what I was doing. I cringe about that now, but the customer service team was so patient with me and answered so many questions and offer valuable advice. They could have taken advantage of me and rushed me through the process but instead they truly wanted to help me, something you don't often find. It wasn't always the cheapest rates but it was fair, straightforward and had no hidden fees or strange grace period and a perfect solution for those entering the world of credit. I've since moved to the West Coast and had many dealings with other credit unions but I will always remember my experience with UMCU as a positive one and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
This was my first credit card and one that's still in my wallet today. It's a very simple and straight forward card, no hidden fees, no surprises, just a reliable credit card. The Bank Of America customer service team is helpful and efficient and their online services are easy to use. The only problems I've ever encountered is a lag in payments posting using the online system. This has occasionally caused problems and required me to call the customer service team to sort it out so I would urge you to pay attention to the deadlines for processing times. The only problem I have is it seems to be overly sensitive to credit card fraud. Legitimate payments are routinely halted and frozen until I approve them. I appreciate them being diligent about fraud but this service has caused more problems with legitimate authorizations and failed to spot the actual fraudulent charges. A definite annoyance but overall I'm still a happy customer.
I've had a mixed experience with Farmers Insurance but overall it was a positive one and I've continued to be a customer. Your level of customer service depends greatly on your agent. I first signed up to Farmers when I moved to a new location and bundled my house, cars, RVs and company car all into one. The initial application and sign up process was an easy and pleasant one and I was treated well by my local agent. The problems arose when I wanted to make changes to the policy of one of my automobiles. I had not had any accidents or filed any claims I simply wanted to make some adjustments to the levels of coverage. The friendly local agent assured me it wouldn't be a problem, but failed to make the adjustment and sent me a bill for everything I had bundled. I was unable to resolve the issue at a local level. The agent refused to communicate by email or phone and insisted I drive down to the office to meet in person. Finally after being fed up, I reached out to the company at a national level and they were able to resolve the problem and were very friendly and professional. I was ready to walk away at this point but the national level customer service was so friendly I changed my mind. Over the years a few issues have popped up with bundling plans, hidden raised costs, but overall it's been a positive experience and the one time I had a claim they were very prompt and helpful. A good company but be sure to check out your local agent first before signing up.
I've used Golden 1 Credit Union's checking account services for well over ten years. I was doing freelance work throughout the California Central Valley and they seemed to have a branch in every city I needed. That's less of an issue now with their handy smart phone app and mobile banking, but it's good to have a branch readily available if you need it. I set up my account quickly without any problems. They have great no/low fee plans that worked well with my small business model. The actual branches are friendly and professional although the wait tends to be a bit long in my experience. These days I rarely go into a branch and rely on mobile banking instead. I mainly use the handy iPhone app to scan and deposit checks. I can just pull out my trusty smartphone and do banking on the fly with a client, even if I'm out on a farm. The technology is very intuitive, user friendly and efficient. My only complaint would be in conflict resolution. I've had a few unnecessary holds placed on checks over the years. Even when Golden 1 admitted their error they weren't very motivated to fix it in a timely manner. Luckily these problems have been few and far between over the years but it's something they could definitely improve upon. I looked into applying for loans and other services but it seemed a little labor intensive and restrictive but I would be willing to consider other services in the future. Overall, a solid credit union, especially for checking, in the Central Valley.
Over the years I've had a lot of experience with insurance companies through insuring both personal and company cars. Geico really excels at personalized customer service, and for that reason alone I will remain a loyal customer. The policy/coverage price is similar to what other companies offered me (I have a clean driving record) but the simplicity of Geico is priceless. Every time I've had to telephone Geico they have always provided friendly, personable, easy to understand and helpful customer service agents. The customer service agents don't seem locked into a script and they are very personable, efficient, friendly and well equipped to help resolve any issues or simply provide advice or information. In my experience, Geico has simply had the best customer service agents out of any insurance company (home, health, life, vehicle, etc) I've ever dealt with. I know I could save a few bucks by switching to another company, but I'll never do it because of their wonderful customer service agents. The only con is they don't accept Visa for online payments, only MasterCard. Their automated and web services are very efficient and easy to use making my insurance policy easy to manage wherever I am. Overall I'm a very satisfied customer and that's not something I find myself saying in conjunction with insurance!
I was introduced to California Credit Union through a job I had during college. At the time I didn't think I would keep the account after I had completed the assignment but I had a surprisingly pleasant experience and have been a loyal customer ever since. I can't remember the last time I was in an actual branch, so I can't comment on local services. I do all my banking through CCU's website, over the phone and occasional ATM usage. For those of us that enjoy mobile banking, this is an ideal credit union. Everything is simple and intuitive online and I've never had any problems with missed transfers, payments, crashed servers like I have encountered with other banks and credit unions. If you have a problem, it's easy to reach them by phone, email or chat and the customer service is wonderful. What I like most is that everything is straightforward and clear-cut. They don't hide fees or other misleading options. My other credit union made it so hard to pay extra on my loan (a good thing you would think) but I've never had any problems with CCU. I'll continue to be a satisfied customer!
