No credit card needed
I had a small amount of credit that i didn't do so well with when i was 18, 5 years late and this, the capital one secured card is the first credit card I've gotten. They increased my limit after 6 months, my payments post quickly. Its been a good experience i already see my credit score improving.
I have had a Wells Fargo Student Checking and Student Savings for years now, and I haven't really loved them. Every time I go in the branch they all try to sell me things... I know it’s part of their job but it’s really annoying when they're offering me credit cards and loans that I wouldn't even be approved for anyway. Even when I call them they try to sell me on more services. Other than that though, they're ok. Banker’s checks are like 10 dollars or something ridiculous. Usually though, when I have a problem, they are very kind and try and help me fix it. They do focus on their customer service.
Commerce West not only had one of the lowest rates for me, but their customer service is 5 star. I work for an insurance agency that writes with over 20 companies, so I have experience with a lot of agencies, and I chose Commerce West for my insurance because they are the best. Whenever I need anything, I can get through to a customer service rep with little to no wait time and they always get me the information I need on the spot. Other insurance companies have 30 minute wait times just to talk to a human being! I was on automatic payments, and one of my payments didn't go through, I was charged a 30 dollar fee, but when I called them, they revoked it as a one time courtesy! I couldn't ask for better customer service. I will probably always stick with Commerce West.
I have had nothing but good experiences with the customer service at Altura Credit Union. I was able to open a free student checking, AND savings account for having direct deposit. First time I walked in I was a little confused. At the branch near me, you don’t see a teller face to face; you see them on a screen and talk to them on a telephone. But don’t let that make you feel like the experience is impersonal. They have always been very nice and helpful. I have banked with Wells Fargo and Bank of America and had sooo many issues but not with Altura. I guess credit unions are always the way to go.
