I've found KTFCU to be really good. They have a range of services that cover all banking angles. The checking account does what it's supposed to and has no fees or hidden charges to worry about. The staff at the Louisville branch I used were always pleased to see you and ready to help and the car loan I got from them was great – it had an interest rate of less than 2 percent. Worth mentioning to those who use online banking or want to have banking apps on their mobile phone that they have not yet got an online banking system set up. Overall, though I'd recommend them. The “family feel” of the service is great.
We have our summer vehicle insured with Liberty Mutual as they were recommended by a friend. All in all, I'd say they are a fairly average company from my experiences with them – not bad by any means but they've never gone above and beyond or exceeded expectations in any way. The application process is much the same as any I've ever been through with any other company, while the members of the staff I've spoken to when we changed our vehicle and when there was an issue with our payment method have been competent. Have not had to use their claim service as of yet.
I originally only took out an Ally account as I was in need of a secondary account to put money aside for a project. I didn't expect that the account itself or the service would be all that good with the current reputation of mainstream banks, but as it happens it's one of the better banking experiences I've had. The internet banking model is so easy to use that I'm surprised it's taking so long to replace standard banking – the interface as well paying and looking at my accounts are really straightforward. If you need help they have various topics on the website but if you need to call in for any help it's sometimes a bit of a chore. The staff I've spoken to previously just seem to have wanted to get me off the phone. I guess that they hope to more or less replace people entirely in their banking model.
Hanover are a really good company to have your home insurance with if you are like me and can't afford to be paying for a policy full of features you don't need. I had a choice of four levels of coverage which made it much easier and affordable to get everything I need covered without a huge deductible. The call center staff are very helpful and managed to add a collection of valuable books to the policy as an extra add-on. They offer the usual payment schemes and thankfully I have not had to use the claims service yet, so I am not sure if it's any good or not.
Always been a big fan of State Farm as they were by far the best at insuring a modified Bronco we owned when we first came to them. They were patient and knowledgeable on the phone when we were getting the initial quote (some companies' reps just couldn't get over the fact the truck had been modified and didn't know how to incorporate it into their policies) and they gave us a really good price. Their payment system is quick and simple and the one time I had to use the claims service they were quick and efficient and we were back on the road pretty quickly.
I spent two years living in Lexington while attending the University Of Kentucky and in general I had no complaint to make about banking itself. I had my after class job at the local pizza joint paid straight in via direct deposit and never had any trouble with that or with accessing my money. The drive-thru at Export was handy and I did take out a small loan with them to buy a (cheap) car to get around. That was where the only issue I had with them came up. Given that a lot of students aren't really up on financial matters, being talked to like a child and like you're a nuisance whenever you needed to speak to staff members wasn't all that welcome. The staff was never actively hostile. It just felt more like I was an irritation whenever I went into the branch.
I got to say first of all that the service I get at ACU is the best I've had with pretty much any institution anywhere. The staff are all experienced banking professionals and are really friendly. My local branch is on Central in Ashland and it's a great place to do your banking. The drive-thru lanes and ATM are also really useful when I'm in a hurry. I had to take out a small loan a couple of years ago to help pay for a new car when my last one died on me and the rates were comparable with just about everywhere else and the conditions were fair. I would highly recommend this place.
