I had bought a small beach home and was excited to have a summer place. I wanted to be realistic about the home owners insurance and flood insurance because it was in an area that was known to experience damage during hurricanes and other storms. The people at Farmers Insurance were really up front about everything and I really appreciated that. They presented me with the fairest rates and I was really happy. Since I don't live near my second home, I was concerned about getting a hold of someone, but I got two phone numbers of two agents so it wouldn't ever be a problem.
I don't really remember applying for my account with the Richmond Heritage Federal Credit Union, but I do know I got pretty tired of them after a little while. I don't know if it was competition with big banks, but their customer service really went down the drain and I started getting nailed with lots of little fees. I didn't think credit unions were like that. I wouldn't call their customer service bad. I guess it's safe to say it was mediocre. I really thought they would have done something to keep me as a customer, but they didn't. After almost no fight, I just picked up and left.
I've been with State Farm for almost ten years now. I've been involved in only a couple of accidents; one was my fault and the other two weren't. I've also made claims for windshield repair. The agents at State Farm were timely, professional and helpful in closing out these claims. We did have an issue with one of them, but that was because of the other party’s insurance company and their inadequacies. Being a good customer for so long has definitely earned me good rates, despite the three accidents. They are an excellent insurance company and I'd suggest them to anyone.
I was a first time home buyer and completely new to the whole process. I had no idea it was so involved. My bank representative was considerably more helpful than my real estate agent! I was worried I'd been taken advantage of, but the folks at the Virginia Federal Credit Union treated us right and walked us through the entire process. I've heard others say negative things about this credit union, but I suppose I got lucky because I felt right at home. Everything worked out fairly and professionally and I walked away extremely satisfied. Despite what you hear, definitely take the time to check this place out if you're buying a home.
