Having done business with FAA for a little over a year, I have to say I was somewhat satisfied with the organization as a whole with a few caveats. There are a lot of issues with getting an account there, and I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get started. While I understand that FAA has to be careful with every account, it was an extremely tedious process. In addition, the fees that are associated with loans are definitely among the highest I've seen. On a positive note, they do have a lot of options for those loans, and have an awesome savings program as far as building interest is concerned. As a whole, FAA credit union is an adequate credit union in Memphis, but there are better.
I'd say my time spent with UPS and their credit union can best be described as completely average. There were way too many loops and hurdles to even get started with them, with an application that took nearly a month to get approved. Once a member, just like my experience at UPS, everything was up and down. There aren't many loans available, at least for me, but they do have a very solid low rate MasterCard that you may or may not qualify for. I didn't like the rate attached to their savings account, but as far as checking accounts go it was definitely adequate.
Simply the most reliable and most efficient form of banking of any type in all of Memphis. Since joining nearly 5 years ago, they have remained steadfast in helping me, and with their assistance, I actually bought my first house. Receiving a loan here was as easy as cake, with the entire process being very very simple. To be honest, after years upon years of dealing with banks, I wanted something that could comply with all my requests for banking without the hassle. Just to have a checking account and a place to keep my money, with the chance to get help if needed. I have completely stopped dealing with banks since joining, and owe it all to this credit union! I would definitely bank with them again in the future, their customer is amazing and they have really good rates for loans too.
My time with First Tennessee was definitely one filled with inadequate customer service and completely average checking. While actually getting an account there was simple, I was forced to pay $12 a month for a “free” checking account due to an error on their behalf. Even worse, the process to have my account changed took months, with a lot of runaround and hurdles to jump. As far as the actual checking goes, it was okay. Being so behind on the curve on ATMS really affected them, and I just did not like dealing with their reps at the bank. Worst of all, closing the account took forever, and somehow my account went over just as it closed due to a “banking fee” that resulted in me having to pay another $35. I guess it was necessary to escape from these guys. I'm sure other people have had better experiences, but not I.
GEICO pretty much gave me everything I needed from an insurance company. In addition to being one of the most affordable car insurance for me out there, they have a very knowledgeable and plain sweet customer service department. Getting a quote from them was easy as pie, and the coverage I had was fantastic. I was even thrown in a few freebies after some time with them, and I was given a form of accident forgiveness in addition to an increase in hospital support for absolutely no extra cost! These guys are true to their word, and there isn't a better car insurance company you can find on the market.
Progressive proved to be a really solid and reliable insurance company during my time with them. Having dual coverage on both my car and home gave me a ton of ease of mind, at a very solid price. In addition, they were extremely helpful in helping me not only get repairs on my car, but also start me on the process of refinancing my home. Their premiums seem to be about the norm, but for a young man such as myself, it's so much better than what most my age seem to have. With their awesome customer service reps, and ability to take care of anything on their spiffy website, I can't complain about anything regarding Progressive.
Having spent over 5 years, I've grown to have a mostly love, but occasional hate relationship with Farmers. My personal agent was truly as nice and helpful a person as any we could ask for. He was extremely upfront, and laid out an acceptable guideline for the coverage of my new summer home. The monthly premiums were, however, higher than any I had ever dealt with, but the quality of the service offered made things a bit easier to bear. When an issue did arise, there was a bit of malaise on their behalf. After a terrible storm, I required the ease of mind in knowing my home would be okay. The reps seemed a little slow to offer that, and getting the repairs needed on my home was a hassle. Outside of that isolated event, however, the coverage has been great. While not the best, Farmers was a worthwhile partner.
State Farm has been as reliable an insurance company as any I've ever dealt with. After nearly 4 years together they've always proven to be on top of what's needed and incredibly helpful. Recently, after a pretty major storm, I had to have my roof replaced. Despite assuming that the process would be extremely painful, my agent was amazing in making the entire ordeal as simple as possible. In less than a month, I had a brand new roof and other repairs done. The costs for my policy, which covers the house AND my car, are really low, and I hope to never have to stop working with this company!
