These guys were pretty good when i was with them, but left them after I moved. They only have 6 locations, so if you are not nearby one I cannot recommend them. They did have pretty convenient hours, I've been with credit unions in the past that are only open until 1pm for example, but they were open until either 5 or 6pm during the week. The checking account I had was free with no minimum balance, the only catch was that my money orders and cashier's checks were not free. There was no fee to sign up, though they did have a $5 minimum balance required at all times that I got back when I closed my account. I remember their interest rates being higher than big banks at the time, but cannot recall what they are. I suppose that's irrelevant since it's been awhile though. Overall good people, nice staff, some nice locations for branches if you're in the area. Worth considering if you are looking for a credit union.
I was with Star One Credit Union when I was living in California, and they were a joy to use as a bank. When we moved we had to stop using them as our credit union, but would definitely recommend them. They had 5 different branches nearby all with 24 hour ATMs, plus you could find their co-op AMTs at 7-11 convenience stores too. There were minimum deposits required for their savings and checking account of $50 and $100 respectively, but as a part of that they also gave you free checks. Applying was easy, and the customer service at the branch was always great! They also gave you access to online banking as well which let us do a ton of stuff we'd normally have to do at a branch.
I recently switched to State Farm after being with another company for several years. We decided that moving to a new home was a good time to consider looking for new insurance. We contacted several different home insurance providers, and not only did State Farm give us the best customer service, but they also gave us the best price. For example, we had a dedicated agent that answered all our questions promptly and was easy to reach by phone or e-mail. We would call other companies and get randomly assigned a rep and then struggle to find our information and would have to get up to speed. I was getting tired of having to repeat my information time and time again just to get a quote! State Farm did such a great job of keeping us in the loop and giving us a good deal.
Me and the wife went through Great Lakes Credit Union for the mortgage on our home. They were incredibly easy to work with and gave us a very competitive rate which surprised me for a credit union! I checked them out because I have a friend that has their checking and savings with them and says tons of great things, so when it came time to looking for a loan I considered them. They do require having a savings account with them if your mortgage is approved, so I do now technically have a savings account with them, but I do not get charged any fees for having it as a part of my mortgage.
I have been with Chase for a few years now, and they continue to impress me over all the other banks I've been with. I love that I don't have to worry about tons of fees with them. We only have 1 direct deposit set up between me and my wife, and it covers the direct deposit requirement across all our accounts. We also get free checks whenever we run out of them, and other benefits like 1% back on our mortgage payment. The mobile app has also been amazing for when my wife cashes her checks at home since she no longer needs to go to the physical bank to do it. Out interest rates are good, but not amazing as opposed to what some of the credit unions are offering. But the lower interest rate is worth it for all the benefits I just listed.
I've had a home owners policy with AAA for the past 20 years and only had to use it a couple times. AAA has always been good to me by giving me a good rate when I've compared to others around renewal times. The first time was when we had a fire in our kitchen. AAA came out to assess the damage, and after paying our deductible we pretty much had a brand new kitchen. They understood that in order to keep the value of the kitchen intact that it required replacing all of the kitchen cabinets that had smoke damage to them, repainting, and new appliances. Even though the dishwasher was still operational, they replaced it due to the discoloration on the front of the machine which surprised me. The customer service was good, but of course if I had to say something bad I'd say it didn't get processed as quickly as I would have liked. But still overall I would give them a 5 star review!
