When I started out on my own and needed insurance, my dad sent me to Ted Tombros's agency, because that is who he used. Ted and his office staff were very easy to work with and extremely helpful in getting all the paperwork done. They helped me with my car insurance and also helped me find a company to get me renter's insurance. I never had any issues with them whatsoever, even when I had a claim when the other driver hit me and lied about it; they gave me advice on how to remedy the situation. (Quick tip, get witnesses if you are ever hit by another driver). By following their advice, I turned a potential claim on my end and having to pay myself to get the damage paid for by the other guy's insurance company and the Highway Patrol sent the driver a ticket in the mail! The only reason I left is because I moved to a different area in the state and wanted a local office. I highly recommend them.
The only reason I would get this card was if I didn't have any other one and it was the best I could get. There are grocery stores that offer gas discounts and those never expire unlike this one. The fact that the Apr is high and you can't do a balance transfer also holds this card back. I am a fan on Chevron and Texaco so they did ally with good gas companies at least. At the very least they need to get rid of the 60 day limitation and make sure you always get ten cents off... Make the introduction promotion 20 cents off and maybe I'll consider the Chevron and Texaco Gas Card. Still is better though than my capital one card that has no bonuses.
When I married my wife, I joined her account on Space Coast since neither of us liked big banks... I had been looking for a reason to leave mine too. This was my first time with a credit union and all I could think was, "why aren't banks like this?" Space Coast didn't try to cram offers or refinances down our throats but they did have good, simple services. They not try to nickel and dime us to death with useless fees. I was completely happy with them and would recommend them to anyone. Sadly I am not with Space Coast anymore because I don't live anywhere near a branch now, otherwise I would have never left.
My wife got us this card because we frequently shop at Kohl's. I wasn't exactly happy because I didn't really want another credit card but I have to admit, it has saved us a lot of money. We will wait until Kohl's is having some sale which happens quite often and she will bring coupons that she has been saving up. Combined with the discounts you get for using your Kohl's card, we are able to "stack" savings upon savings and it isn't rare that we get 80% of retail for something that is a high quality good. The card is simple to pay off as well so I just treat it like a discount card. I recommend it, especially if you or someone you know is a coupon’er.
My wife and I joined CFE after coming from a big national Bank. We were expecting a more personal experience but what we got was more of the same mediocre “I'm waiting till five o'clock so I can get off, why is this customer bothering me” attitude. We had multiple issues with checks being deposited and not be available for days after they assured us they would be. They never seem to really TRY to help. The worst is their phone service (or lack thereof)... I would find myself scheduling a call to ask a question or resolve an issue based on how much stress I had been through that day. .. I knew calling them would stress me out so I wouldn't bother with it. You shouldn't have to worry about something like that.
I've always preferred credit unions to banks and I have had experience with several of both. Fairwinds at the moment is my preferred choice. They generally have good customer services but like any big organization (more than 50+ employees I mean) you are not going be guaranteed the best person when you are dealing with customer service. Case in point, I deposited a check from a city paycheck and it took much longer than you would have expected it to. No one told me it would take so long and I still never got a clear answer as to why even when I called customer service. They have some odd policies like that, like charging you for NOT using billpay if you sign up for it, that sort of thing. Still, they have driveup banking which is very nice and I am able to get what I need done that way. I would recommend them but I wouldn't tell you to expect platinum service when you aren't paying for it.
