No credit card needed
Truthfully it is the only credit card I own, but I have definitely enjoyed many of the bonuses available on this card. As someone with tons of family in the airline industry, the flight miles are necessary to keep up with them and travel effectively. The mile per dollar does a great job of allowing that. The APR is a bit steep if you don't have much credit (Like me), however if you pay off your balance regularly it doesn't hurt too much. No fees for a year, but be prepared to pay $50+ after the first year if you're not a huge spender. Overall, good card though.
Good checking account for those with few other options, as the fees can be avoided and it can be a "free" checking account if you watch what you are doing. However, it is very very easy to rack up fees either from ATM transactions or from simply not using the account enough. If you are careful however, the service is also great, I've lost multiple card and had purchases on them and have had Wells Fargo take care of it quickly and effectively every time. Just watch the fees and don't forget to make your purchases!
As someone who uses the card mostly for business purchases, it seems to give a very good amount of rewards if you use it enough. For personal use it may not rack up the rewards necessary to make up for the interest rate, but if you are diligent about paying it off and have lots of office expenses for your business/organization to use it on, it can be one of the most rewarding cards you can own.
Chase freedom is the best card in this category for a large number of reasons. First of all, the point for every dollar you spend (with bonuses for TONS of other uses, like gas or groceries) add up really fast, and before you know it you can get some free stuff. It gives you text aloerts and email alerts which is great for smartphone users, and the Apps work well too. Interest rate isn't awful too as long as you haven't ruined your credit before...i'm a student with not much credit to stand on and I'm looking at a rate my parents are jealous of!
Excellent credit union. Have had an account there for years; my dad had one there from working at the city. No fees on accounts, checking card is solid and even though there are few Velocity ATMs, they waive the fee at many credit unions. They also manage my dad's retirement, with an easy to use online system in which he can choose his ways to invest his assets. Only thing I would like is for more customization of accounts, such as photo debit cards and such. Hopefully they branch out more and receive some new locations throughout the city as well.
