No credit card needed
I applied to this card and was denied. I can't say that I was surprised because I have a negative credit history but I had heard that Wal-Mart was an easy place to apply. My score right now is 584 and that's a boost from low 300s. When I was younger I ruined my credit with credit cards and now I'm trying to re-establish. I was hopeful to be okay with this card as it lets you finance Wal-Mart items (I go there all the time to save a buck). I thought this because I was approved for Fingerhut and a visa $300 credit card recently. I guess they are more strict than I thought. But if you have better credit than I do, this is a great way to establish history :)
This Chase Sapphire Preferred card has a lot of good things to it (if you can qualify). Customer service is good which leaves a lot to say for other cards that answer in India?. There is no over the limit fee. Which is good for forgetful people. Cash advance is okay. No foreign fee. Cons: Can not get a response online. The APR cash advance is high. The late fee is $35 but I guess that's normal. Can't play with paying the card late. And only a 21 grace period is okay.
I got to know this bank after ordering a prepaid card online. The process was so quick and easy I couldn't believe it. I literally got a checking account and routing number in minutes! I got my direct deposit form right then. I got this card to be able to get paid online, since I do transcribing, data entry and articles for Amazon Mechanical Turk. I received my "Account Now" card a few days later. I logged in, set up my e-mail to do online banking. This was a little confusing, hence the 4/5 stars. Amazon still has to verify my account and for some reason that hasn't happen. Just waiting... There is a $5 initial fee which I will be happy to pay when I make my first deposit. I will also be using this card to load money from my babysitting earnings. I received a coupon when I got it! The first load with moneygram is free! So , I will load it to buy Washable Baby Diapers (AIO pocket) from Ebay. It was a great experience with The Bancorp!
I got a prepaid card in a check cashing for about $20 dollars in 2008. I had this account for about 5 years with absolutely no problem. I loaded money in check cashing places or even with moneygram. I was able to purchase things online, no problem. The time I used this card, and had about $500 in my checking account with a hold from a company, the "problem resolution" was quick and all I had to do was fax an invoice for the hold to disappear (3 day process). Everything was great. I even used my account with paypal, amazon, and ebay (a favorite website of mine). I could say this account by far surpasses many out there such as BlueBird by American Express. Horrible Experience thought it would be good because of the name. Metabank was great for a long time. The reason I give it a poor rating for customer service is because a very rude person who hang the phone on me wouldn't help me. First time I had an issue and I wasn't able to resolve it. I lost my card and I reported lost online. However, I didn't pay the $5 to get a new one. I waited maybe 3-6 months to access my account online and I was informed it was frozen, an issue that had to be resolved on the phone. It didn't happen. I waited about 2 hours. A lady with an accent yelled at me and told me to be quiet and let her talk. She basically didn't know how to unfreeze the account. I asked to speak with a supervisor at least 5 times and she kept answering when I was put on hold. I asked her if she had a worker # or ID and she hanged up the phone on me. Since that, I haven't been able to access my account and I haven't and probably wont try to call customer service EVER again. I just made my mind that I had a "good" company for a long time and it was done and over. I switched to another prepaid- direct deposit (checking service). The fees are higher than METABANK but I just didn't want to deal with their customer service. Overall, just don't lose your card and it's a good service.
I got this card when I was about 18 years old. I had a limited to No credit history when I applied for it. I didn't really have any hassle when I applied. I had to submit additional documentation by mail but that was easy and a quick process. However, I do not recommend this card because if you miss a payment, well, it is just extremely expensive. I suppose the good thing about it is also the bad thing about it: It pretty much takes anyone. I was a broke babysitter in college and they approved me. It took me forever to pay the interest back. Now, I don't believe in credit. I stick to cash or debit.
