First off, I want to start by saying that Ally Bank is a great choice if you are looking for a solid bank that offers great rates. I've been more than happy with their service and will continue to keep using them as my main bank! Now onto the savings account, or more specifically, the Money Market account. This is a great option for people who want a good savings account rate, but still have access to their money in case of emergencies. This is exactly what I use this account for. I use it as my "rainy day" fund. It is perfect for this use, because Ally sends you a debit card that is tied to this account! Perfect! Car broke down and need access to the money now? You have your debit card there with you. Dog is sick and has to go to the vet, but you don't have the money in your regular checking account? Don't worry, your emergency fund is linked to your debit card from Ally. Only drawback, you can only have six transactions a month with your money market account. That is not an issue with Ally, as all banks have this due to federal regulations. All in all, this is a solid choice for a savings account.
Target is my choice of big box retailer, so it is nice to see a decent store card offered by them! With the Target Store Card, you get 5% off you entire purchase every time you use it. It does not sound like much, but if you are a frequent patron of Target, then think of it this way: say you buy the majority of your supplies from Target and it costs you a total of $10,000 a year (hypothetically). At 5%, that is about $500 for that year. That is an extra $500 for whatever you might need it for. Not only that, but you also get an extra 30 days on returns and free shipping on the Target.com website. That is a pretty good deal if you ask me.
Like other reviewers have said, this card is only really useful if you do a majority of your shopping at the GAP, or any of their associated chains. With a high interest rate, the GAP Credit Card has many other alternatives that are much better. The plus to the alternatives, such as the Capital One Platinum card, is that you can use it anywhere. I personally do not shop at the GAP, so this card would be no use to me. Even compared to other store cards, such as the Target Store Card, the interest rate for the GAP credit card, is almost 2% higher than the Target card. Look elsewhere for a good store card.
The San Diego area has quite a few options as far as credit unions go. Mission Federal seems to be one of the larger ones, and is one of two credit unions in San Diego that I have an account with. I have had nothing but awesome experiences with both of the credit unions, but if I had to pick one over the other it would be Mission Federal. Every time I go into my local branch, I experience nothing but the greatest customer service. The tellers are always smiling and ready to help when I need it. They are also very knowledgeable about the products and services offered by Mission Federal. If you are looking for a credit union on the San Diego area, I would definitely check out Mission Federal first.
It bums me out that this card is not offered anymore. It was one of my first credit cards, and now that my brothers are becoming of age to where they are starting to look for there first credit card, I wish I could refer them to this one! There is no annual fee, and it is not one of those secured cards where you have to put a deposit. The Capital One Cash Rewards for Newcomers really was a great card for those looking to establish credit. The rewards are kind of lackluster, and much better rewards can be found on cards, albeit cards that require a much higher credit score.
The UPside prepaid debit card is just that: a prepaid debit card. I personally do not like these cards. I have a lot of experience with prepaid debit cards, being that a lot of employers are using them nowadays. This card is exactly like those. If you don't want to have a bank account, then I guess this is a good option? Even then, I would rather just go get a regular debit card from a credit union. At the end of the day, there is nothing special about this card. It is not a credit card and it does not report to any agencies to even help you build credit. This card is a hard pass...
First thing I always notice about credit cards, the annual fee. With the Citi Diamond Preferred card, there is no annual fee. Perfect! Also, the interest rate can be pretty good, with the lowest end being in the 12% range. That is good compared to some of the other cards, which normally have around 18%. This card does not have any rewards, which is why I took one star away from it. I do like how it gives your priority access to presale tickets to a number of different events. Very cool! I would say if you have the opportunity to get this card, I would not pass up on it.
This is a great card for traveling, in my opinion. The Priceline credit card is perfect for those that buy a lot of airline tickets, rent a lot of cars, or stay in a lot of different hotels. The interest rate is not anything to write home about, but there is no annual fee. That part is always a plus. At the end of the day, there are much better cards out there to choose from. But like I said earlier, if you are a traveler, then you might consider this. Always check out some of the other travel card options that are out there right now.
The American Express Gold Card is one of the best credit cards out there right now, in my opinion. The only reason I took a star away from this card, is because of the insanely high annual fee after the first year of $125. But I guess with all things that cost a bit of money, you do get quite a bit of perks. The first major one is, if you qualify, they give you a personalized interest rate. Lucky for me, I was able to get one locked in at about 10%. This is significantly lower than most of my other credit cards I have or had. Also, there is not a set credit line, they approve your purchases based on your payment history and your financial situation that is made aware to them. Pretty cool if you ask me!
It is a shame that this card is not available any more, as it would be the perfect card for someone trying to build credit. There was no annual fee and the interest rate was actually pretty mild at about 17%. I had cards that were well into the 20%'s, so this one is a bit better. The point system is pretty good as well, although I would have appreciated a cash back option better as opposed to "ThankYou Points". But rewards are rewards and we are lucky that we have any! Anyway, the Sunoco credit card was a pretty good low-end credit card, suited for those people who are just trying to get their credit going.
I was looking for car insurance when I purchased my first car earlier this year. I received many quotes. But none of them even came close to how affordable The General is. The quote process was extremely user friendly and easy to set up your insurance if you decided to sign up through them. From quote to insured took me about 20 minutes. Awesome! I had a couple questions a few days ago, so I called them and asked for some information about moving and my insurance. The customer service is phenomenal and the rep I talked to was not only extremely knowledgeable, but also very friendly. Very satisfied with my choice of The General for my car insurance.
I absolutely love my Amazon Credit Card! I buy TONS of stuff off Amazon. Even if I can drive down the street and go to the store, Amazon usually has it for less. Anyway, when you sign up you get a 30$ Amazon gift card. Amazing. Also, no annual fee. On top of that three times the points for every dollar spent on Amazon.com when using the credit card. Two times the points for gas and restaurants when you use the amazon.com credit card. Crazy awesome rewards. Points are redeemable on amazon.com purchases. It is almost like this card was meant for me. If you are like me and purchase a ton of items from amazon, do yourself a favor and get this card. Great card for those amazon lovers out there!
I can't say enough good things about BECU. Since moving to Seattle a few months ago without a car, I was stressing out trying to find out ways to get around. Once I landed a job, this was even more important and was at the top of my priority list. I applied for a few loans but kept getting rejected, when someone told me to try BECU. I applied online for an auto loan of $15k, and was approved! All I needed to do was either go to one of their preferred dealers or just bring my approval form to a dealer of my choice and I would be ready to go! The process was so easy and it made my first car buying experience wonderful. I had a few hiccups and everyone I talked to on the phone was more than happy to help and provided me with great information. BECU is definitely the way to go!
I love my Ally checking account. I originally joined because I wanted to get a new checking account that I could use as a central hub for all my other accounts to link to. It works perfectly for what I need it for. Not only that, but the website is extremely user friendly and the customer service is beyond amazing. The online banking aspect is much better than my current local credit union online banking portal. The interest rates are great, and comparable to most credit unions! After opening my checking account, I have opened several other accounts with Ally. I'm definitely a customer for life!
I love travel rewards cards. Perfect for that young professional who does not only travel a lot for business, but also for pleasure. The BankAmericard Travel Rewards card gives you $100 off of your next travel purchase. This is great, especially if you know you are going to take a trip in the coming months. This worked out well for me, as I was planning a trip home to visit my parents and after spending $500 within three months and getting the discount, my trip only cost my about $100. CRAZY. If you’re looking for a good, basic travel rewards card, the BankAmericard Travel rewards is a great candidate.
This is a great first card! The Capital One Platinum card was my first credit card after my secured card, which was also with Capital One. If you are looking for a credit card to get started on your credit journey, this is a great, basic credit card. The annual fee is really low (only 19$ a year!), but the interest rate is high. That is to be expected with credit cards that are geared to limited credit histories. I do wish this card had some rewards, which is why I knocked one star off. But on the contrary, it comes with some awesome perks, like road side assistance and travel assistance.
I had high hopes for this card, as I have tons of Valero stations in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, I can not recommend this card to people looking for gas credit cards. The Valero Gas Card only gives you 30 cents per gallon. This is definitely the deal killer. There are many gas cards out that offer rewards. For example, the Marathon gas card offers you 50 cents per gallon if you purchase a certain amount. Don't get me wrong, getting any rewards is leaps and bounds better than no rewards at all. Like all credit cards, just read the fine print before you decide, as mentioned by many other reviewers below.
The thing about store cards, is that they all come with crazy high APR. One can not give a legitimate review on that factor alone. Where most store cards differ is in the rewards, and the Crate and Barrel store card offers rewards while most other store cards do not. You get $10 for every $200 spent. I use it when I need to go christmas or just general gift shopping. The financing requirement is quite high, compared to the Amazon store card of only $99 for qualifying items. At the end of the day, there are better store cards, but I don't think you will go wrong with this one.
If you are looking for a gas credit card, the Marathon Credit Card is a perfect candidate. It has awesome rewards compared to some other gas cards I have used in the past (Chevron, Shell, etc). If you have a long commute or you like to take road trips like myself, this card gives you an initial $0.50 per gallon! None of my other cards even come close to this. Now, you will need to use this at Marathon gas stations, which are regionally located. I know when I moved out west to California I could no longer use it, so be sure to remember that!
The Journey Student Rewards card with Capital One is a great card for a college student. It does not require you to have an excellent credit history. It also does not have an annual fee, which is perfect for those students who may not have the extra money to pay for an annual fee. It comes with some pretty good bonus rewards, but the Amazon Visa with Chase has better rewards, and is perfect if you order a lot of items from Amazon. The rate is pretty high with the Journey Student Rewards card, but that is to be expected with a card that is aimed for with limited credit. Overall, a solid first credit card! Capital One is a great company to build credit with!
I like how you get 50,000 points after spending $5,000 within the first three months, it’s a lot of bonus points compared to some other cards. I also like how you get five points for every dollar spent on normal every day bills. That is a huge perk that I don’t think any other credit card offers right now. I don’t like that there is an annual fee. Compared to the Amazon Visa, the Ink Bold Business Card has a pretty high annual fee, where as the Amazon Visa does not have an annual fee. On the flip side, this card is designed for businesses, and would suit that market perfectly with all the travel points you can earn.
I love this card! I use it for most of my amazon purchases. For example, I used it to finance a new computer monitor I've been wanting. Also used it to finance some equipment I needed for my move. This works perfectly for me. I purchase a lot of things on amazon, and I would say that if you buy a lot from amazon, that you get this card too. The only negative to it, is that the interest rate is pretty high, but that isn’t a problem if you make sure to pay off the entire balance each month. Also, their customer service is amazing and always solves my problem quickly and efficiently.
