No credit card needed
I recently opened a capital 360 savings account and so far, things have been going great. One of the positives with this account is that there are no minimum balance fees or any monthly fees. Their customer service representatives also are extremely personable and very patient. When I forgot my PIN number, they did not give me a hard time. They worked with me until I could access my account online. I also like how user friendly their online banking system is. It's very easy to navigate through their website and it's easy to get help or get your questions answered about the specifics of this type of account. This savings account earns interest every year by not much, which is okay because it is reasonable.
For those with bad credit, there aren't that many good options. The First Progress Platinum secured card though, is better than nothing. I've had this card for a little over 4 months. What I like about it is that they don't require a credit history or minimum credit score for approval. You also set your credit limit by how much you deposit. They also will report to the three major credit bureaus, so as long as you pay on time and take care of this credit, you will build or rebuilt your credit history. The card has an annual fee of $39. I haven't asked them to waive it yet because I haven't had the card for that long, so I don't know if that's possible. The down side of this card is that it has no rewards offer whatsoever, but cards in this range from what I know, don't offer those anyway. Their online payment website is easy to use and so far, I haven't had any problems with this card. Overall, for what they're offering, I think this card is good for those who have bad credit like myself.
Discover it card for students is one of the best cards out there for those who are students and those that have fair credit history. This card has no annual fee and offers great customer service interaction. As long as you tell the representatives your concerns or problems with late payments etc, they will do their best to help you. I also like the 0% APR for the first 6 months, and their standard APR after that is reasonable. Their website is easy to navigate and the discover card app is simple to use. The only downside I could really think of is that it is not as universally accepted as Visa or Mastercard. But other than that, this card is great for making online purchases and school related purchases. This card, if you take care of it, will help you build credit and after establishing credible payment history, discover will increase your credit limit.
I've used this card to rebuild my credit and so far, I haven't had any problems. Unlike some secured credit cards offered in the bad-fair category, this card is completely legit. There are no hidden fees, and the annual fee of $29 is manageable. As long as you pay off your balance every month, you'll be fine. CapitalOne will report to the three credit bureaus on a regular basis, so if you are on good terms with them, your credit score will increase. The only downside is the slightly high APR, but considering the other cards in the same category, this card is still a pretty good deal. Also, this card is really easy to get and is super convenient. You can use it just like any other credit card, wherever Mastercard is accepted.
This card is for those who have limited credit history or those that want to re-establish credit. This one is also a great card for first-time credit users. I've had this card for quite some time and I've never had a problem with it. One of the perks is the no interest fee for the first year.I can't really think of a downside other than the annual $19 fee and the slightly high APR. With the annual fee, you can call them to get it waived. Also, if you continue to pay on time and prove your creditworthiness, Capital One will increase your credit limit after 9 mos ( upon request or automatically). And if you are ever late for a payment, try to give Capital One as soon as possible. There is a chance they might waive that fee too. I really like this card because of its convenience and reliability. Again, if you are looking for a first credit card, this one is it.
