No credit card needed
I like this store and their goods but a credit card with a variable 26.99% interest rate is obscene. Cash is king and debt is dumb.
Quick and easy to access an open, Quizzle made getting a credit report almost child's play. I always get my free credit reports from the big three every year, but I also like to check up on it periodically. Having previously used another free service, I was curious as to how Quizzle would stack up. I was pleasantly surprised at the speed and accuracy of the report. I also like that I am not swamped by ads. I understand that advertising pays for the service, but the ads are not in your face, but rather are recommendations. You almost have to look for them! I like that. I also like the simple and easy to read format of the credit report itself. each credit account lists account details, payment information, and contact information. I like how contact info is so easily available in case I need to contact the creditor. I'm a believer and look forward to my quarterly updates.
I have been a Credit Karma for a couple of years now. I always take advantage of my free annual credit report by the big three, one every 4 months, I like Credit Karma because it allows me to check my credit report anytime I desire. To be honest, I am a Dave Ramsey follower and do not put a lot of weight on my score, I do however, use credit and want to make sure nothing creeps onto my record that would surprise me. With all of the data breaches that have been happening, one cannot be to careful. I check about once a month to ensure nothing new has been opened and that recent activity is accurate. I did see once that a couple of accounts had been closed due to non-use and that let me know to go ahead and shred the cards and not try to use them. For someone concerned with building credit so they can buy a house Credit Karma is a useful free tool to allow them to monitor their credit history and score. The offer tips on credit building, safe card use and recommendations on cards that can help you improve your interest rates.
About 20 years ago, I asked a friend who was an insurance adjuster who he would recommend for car insurance. As an independent adjustor, he dealt with many companies and he recommended Erie. The main factor that caught my attention was their fair claims history. He said, “If you’re not satisfied with 100% of the amount they will make it 105%.” Based on his experience I went with them and was a very satisfied customer of theirs for a number of years while living in Virginia and North Carolina. I left them only when I went to Japan for 3 years. They had good rates and even better service.
All I can say is ouch! I am not a fan of credit cards to start with, but I do have a couple that I use and make sure I pay off every month. This is a card that I have had in the past and glad to be rid of. I got it only because of a rebate offer that came with opening of the card in conjunction with buying some tires. Once I received my offered rebate I paid off the card immediately as I was not going to pay any interest computed at a whopping 28.99% interest! That is highway robbery in my book and used to be illegal in most states. It still should be! On the plus side, the card does carry some benefits for car owners who regularly shop at Goodyear stores or dealers who accept this card as you can get rebates not offered to cash buyers or those who use another credit card. If you do get a Goodyear card be sure that you pay if off immediately and do not let the 25 day grace period slip past without payment in full.
I have had my Capital One 360 account for about 10 years now, ever since it was ING Direct. This is where I keep a large portion of my savings because of the good rate, currently .75% yield, which is much higher than my local credit union account. Ive seen online banks with higher rates, but I don't see it worth the hassle of changing over. Capital One 360 makes transfers in and out very easy. I can transfer between my multiple savings accounts with them and between my two checking accounts. I own a rental house in another state and it is very convenient to transfer money between the three accounts. Some people have complained that it takes too long to process a transaction, but my transfers have never taken more than 2 business days. There is no delay between Capital One 360 accounts themselves.
First of all, I must say that I love this credit union! I have been a member for almost 14 years and have multiple accounts including a home mortgage. When I moved into this area I spent a whole day researching banks and credit unions and no institution, bank or credit union could beat their rates, fees and branch locations. Never had a problem with any account (checking, savings, debit card, credit card, car loans and IRAs) except the credit card. More than once I have had my card number stolen and used. Each time I have to work with an out of state entity to solve the matter. Erroneous and fraudulent charges have always been removed, I have never suffered a loss and only once had a legitimate charge questioned. Writing letters and faxing information takes a little longer than I think it should. They have always been professional but I feel that a local security office could speed the process up. I would feel more confident if I had a local "face" to talk to when these issues arise. By no means is this a reason to change my relationship with them, just a slight irritation. As I said, I love this place and would work for them joyfully if I could!
