I been a long time member of First Niagara going back to the days when it was Lockport Saving Bank, and they've never been anything but helpful. I moved out of the Western New York area about 10 years ago (and far away from any branch), but I've always maintained my account. I still do business in New York, so it is handy to have a couple local accounts. They have always been always willing to help me out with any issue I have had involving transfer and bill payments. These types of problems can be tricky to deal with when I am on the opposite coast, but I can relax, knowing that someone at their customer service will always be willing to work with me to get the problem resolved.
I spend a lot of time in Washington State, and New York state, so having branches of this bank on both coasts is very convenient. They were even helpful in getting me checks for my address in WA, and New York, but both from the same account. I usually prefer small local banks, but this giant of a bank has been as helpful for my unusual needs as any small town bank
I'm never a big fan of having to pay fees for a checking account, but I suppose this is the way things are done today. So I guess 3 dollars a month for an account that I really need to have with this bank is not so bad. Especially since I need the ability to have checks from a multinational bank may not seem like a big deal, but it is a must in my business.
Travelers is a huge corporation that treats you just like a mom and pop insurer would. I was involved in an accident that was not my fault, and the other guys insurance company was being very aggressive with me, and my agent at Travelers was able to get them off my back very quickly. I really appreciated how much he really cared about my case, and in the end he was able to get the other insurance company to admit that I was not at fault, and they paid for everything. I could not have been happier. I've been a customer of Travelers for almost 10 years, and they've always been there for me when I need them.
I had been a customer for many years of Sterling Savings bank when they were bought out by Umpqua. I was really nervous that all kinds of changes and new fees would be arriving soon after the change. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that there would be no dramatic changes, and not crazy fee. They even kept the entire staff of my branch, who I have dealt with many times, and was happy not to have to learn a bunch of new faces. Or, it could have even been worse, they could have closed my branch. All and all its almost like my original bank never went away.
I've been using Capital Ones 360 checking account for a few years now, and I've been very happy with the results. Their ATM fees for using another banks ATM's are low, and no fees at all for using one of there numerous ATM's. They are also very understanding that sometimes people make mistakes. Twice now I called their customer service to talk to them about a time I accidentally overdrew my account. They were so nice, and removed the fee they charged me right away. I don't know many other banks who would be so generous.
