I opened a savings and checking account with Freedom Credit Union during college because I originally had an account with a credit union back home that was not in the area. The set up was fairly simple and hassle free, but my complaint would be with customer service. The tellers at the credit union aren't friendly and are very annoyed when you have more than one transaction. I overdrafted my checking account and the woman was extremely rude when I asked to have the fee removed since it was my first time. I also had an incident where I cashed a check and the money never showed up in my account. Thankfully I saved my slip so I had proof of the check and could have the issue fixed. After I graduated from college I closed the accounts because I really was not a fan of the credit union. I would much rather do business with a place that is more responsible and has friendly workers.
I switch car insurance from a small private company to Liberty Mutual because of recommendations from friends. The company I had before didn't have great discounts for multiple cars but when I made the switch to Liberty Mutual I saved over $250 a month! The application was easy and I had a wonderful agent guide me through it. The policy was described in great detail and my agent made sure I understood everything along the way. After 7 months of having Liberty Mutual I got rear ended and Liberty Mutual set me up with a rental car right away until mine was fixed. It was very easy to deal with the accident and I felt no stress from it. They even gave me a vehicle with four wheel drive because I live on a dirt road. Great company with excellent customer service!
I opened first a savings account with Greylock Federal Credit Union when I was 8 years old. As I got into high school I decided to open a checking account and have continued to have an excellent experience. I once over drafted my checking account and my savings account covered the overdraft. I was technically supposed to be charged an overdraft fee but the next time I came into the bank, the teller cleared the charge since it was my first time it happened. The set up of the account was really easy, you receive a very durable debit card and it came very fast. I would highly recommend getting a checking account since it is very easy to set up and manage. Greylock also offers online banking where you can easily transfer money between accounts.
I opened a savings account over a year ago with TD Bank and have no complaints. It was easy to set up and very fast. I deposit money into the bank weekly and haven't touched it, so it is nice having an account to just save money in. I felt like I was more willing to pull money out of my checking account, so opening up the savings account was a great idea. The $300 minimum is easy to maintain if you are using the account to actually save money in. I just know I have to keep the minimum and it is fine. The first year the monthly maintenance fee is waived which also helps save money. Great bank account to start off with.
I opened up the student checking account and had a great experience doing so. It was a really easy and fast set up. All I needed was my license and my student ID. There are no annual fees and there are locations all over, even abroad. I got a debit card that day and didn't have to wait weeks for one to be mailed to me. I frequently use the branch near my college and the employees always address me by name which is really unique I feel like for a bank. The fact that they remember customers is a really great practice. I love how easy it is to bank with TD Bank and would highly recommend it to other college students. I didn't want to have to deal with finding a bank with competitive rates, because right now I just want a place to put my money into. Great for college students.
