I have had this card for about five years and really love it. We have purchased a lot through Amazon over the years and it was about time we got something in return! We get points for purchases and can apply those points like free money(or already-paid-for money). I have often gotten small things for free, not realizing I had accumulated so many points, it's so easy to do and so easy to apply the points at checkout. The interest rate and possible late fees make this one card I make sure to pay off each month.
I HAVE HAD ACCOUNTS WITH THEM FOR ALMOST FIFTEEN YEARS. WE HAVE CHECKING, SAVINGS, MORTGAGE AND HOME EQUITY LOANS WITH THEM. RECENTLY WE HAVE BEEN USING THE HOME EQUITY LOAN IN ORDER TO PAY COLLEGE TUITION AND I MISCALCULATED A PAYMENT AND IT ENDED UP THAT THE LATEST COLLEGE PAYMENT WOULD SEND US OVER OUR LOAN LIMIT. THEY PAID THE AMOUNT AND CALLED ME ON HOW TO COVER IT. THAT IS HOW I REMEMBER MINOR PROBLEMS BEING HANDLED BY BANKS DECADES AGO. THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ANOTHER BANK WOULD'VE SIMPLY RESULTED IN A REFUSAL TO PAY AND A BANK FEE ON MY ACCOUNT - AND IT WOULD'VE BEEN ALL DONE WITH COMPUTERS.
BENEFITS ARE PRETTY GOOD FOR THIS CARD ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY COMBINED WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES - NOW YOU GET A FREE CHECKED BAG FOR YOURSELF AND THE PEOPLE TRAVELING WITH YOU. YOU ALSO GET TO GO TO THE PRIORITY CHECK-IN LINE. THE YEARLY FEE IS NOT BAD CONSIDERING IT IS OFF-SET BY THE $99 COMPANION TICKET YOU GET EVERY YEAR. THE RESTRICTIONS(HOLIDAYS ETC.) ARE UNDERSTANDABLE. JUST BE CAREFUL OF THE INTEREST RATE WHICH IS QUITE HIGH. THE LATE FEES ARE ALSO RIDICULOUS(I THINK $35 - THAT IS ABSURD). LATE PAYMENTS ALSO TRIGGER AN EVEN HIGHER INTEREST RATE.
I have had a savings account with PNC for about fifteen years. They have different options and this one was easy to open and does not cost anything to have - unlike some other banks' accounts(I'm looking at you Citizens Bank!). Customer service is great, everyone I have dealt with was friendly and helpful. PNC has many ATM machines so you are not hit with a lot of fees. I only get a paper statement every three months but I don't really need more than that. It is easy to move my money around on the PNC website and the transfers seem to post immediately. The only reason I didn't rate it five stars was that the account pays next to nothing on my money, but that is true of any savings account right now.
I had this account until I realized how much money it was actually costing me. The balance dropped below the minimum and I was charged a fee so I called the bank to see if I could get it reversed(I had this account for over five years without dropping below the balance) so I said I wanted to close the account. I was told that, if I took all the money out of the account, it would be considered closed. So I did. The next month, I got a letter(machine-generated) saying my account was overdrawn by the amount of the service fee minus five cents. So when I went to close my account, they had left 5 cents in the account, leaving it open. I went to the bank and they told me I had to pay the negative balance before I could close the account and, if I refused, it would negatively affect my credit score. I ended up paying just to get this over and done with. Sadly, this is not even the worst experience I have had with a bank.
