I have a pretty bad issue with spending money, so saving can be quite hard. Because of that I wanted a dedicated online savings account that I can just store some money every paycheck in and be done with. The GE Capital Bank Online savings account was perfect for that. They have a very nice interest rate, and there is no fees at all to use the savings account. It's online only, so there is no local branch you can walk into or anything like that, but that's exactly why I chose it. It really makes it easy to just send a portion of my check every month to the account and sort of set it and forget it. May not be the best method of saving, but it's working for me at the moment.
A while back I decided to go with a local credit union as I heard the banking experience would be better with one. I signed up with Credit Union of Colorado, and have been very satisfied. No fees, No issues whatsoever. When you walk into the local branch they greet you with a smile and are very friendly. Just all around great service. My only issue is that they don't have a lot of branches so you may have to drive quite a ways to get to one. Other than that, you can't go wrong with them.
I was given a $50 bonus for signing up with capital one 360 checking account. At first I signed up just for the money, I didn't expect I'd like the account too much. But I can say that I love using it. It's super convenient to use your mobile to deposit checks. Also because they have no fees with the account, there really is no reason not to have one. I'll definitely be sticking with it for the time being.
I had a Huntington National Bank Free Checking account with them a few years back and I was very satisfied. There are no monthly maintenance fees or minimum balance fees or paper statement fees, or any of that nonsense that a lot of other banks try to pull on you. There is a overdraft charge but as long as you're up and up on your finances that shouldn't be a problem. I really can't say anything bad about them. Pretty good bank if you're in the area.
