No credit card needed
I needed some car insurance and did some research, found out that state farm offered the best prices. I got in touch with them and John Harrison contacted me. We spoke and he laid it all out for me. Helped me pick the right plan for me and really walked me through the process. I have no complaints with him or state farm and would work with them in the future.
I was with bank of america a few years ago and after dealing with the monthly fees I was near the end of my ropes. The straw that broke the camels back is when I found out they were going to be initiating a charge for every time you used your debit card. I think they eventually rejected that idea once the bad press came out, but just knowing they were considering it was enough for me to leave them and head to a credit union. I haven't looked back since.
I got tired of the big banks and decided to go with a credit union. A friend told me about Central Illinois Credit Union and I signed up hoping for the best. They had good experiences with them so I imagined I would as well. I have to admit, he was right, I'm very glad I signed up with Central Illinois Credit Union because they have no fees at all, ATM's all over, and the customer support is top notch. I should have left the big banks years ago.
I signed up with Ally for their savings account because I wanted an online only account I could use strictly for putting extra money away. Because it's an online only account, it makes it so easy to just transfer some money from my other checking account directly to there, and forget all about it. They have no fees on the account, which is huge because saving every little bit helps. Ally as a company is great as well, there are no local branches so they pass the savings on to the customer. The customer support is fantastic as well and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I highly recommend Ally for savings.
I have had an account with USAA for a few years now, ever since they opened up the service for people who aren't in the military. It's been a great bank and I'm glad I signed up. There's no local branch to do business with, but I hear you can deposit checks through the UPS store. Although I haven't done that yet. Their customer service is top notch and they will take care of you very quickly. Another huge plus with USAA bank is that there are no monthly maintenance fees and ATM fees are reimbursed to your account, which is fantastic. I highly recommend them if you can get in.
I have an account with TCF bank. I haven't had any problems with them. They treat you nice when you come into the local branch. Their customer service is very good, no complaints there at all. The overall checking account I have is very good, no crazy fees or anything that I know of. ATM machines are plentiful. It would be nice of other bank ATM machine fees were refunded but I guess you can't have everything. Normally I would go with a credit union, but if you have a local branch nearby and you are looking for a bank, give TCF a try.
