I switched to Ally Bank for both checking and savings a few years ago, around the time they were spun off from GMAC after the financial crisis. I don't regret that decision and till date, I'm satisfied with the experience of having them as my online banking solution. My banking needs are generally simple and an online bank meets my needs. If you are looking for low fees, excellent customer service, great online/mobile banking features etc. along with interest on your balance (although the rates are low due to the low interest environment, Ally is one of the top interest payers among the major banks) - I would recommend Ally!
I have had Erie insurance for our rental property for a few years now and have had no complaints about their service or the cost of premiums. I regularly shop around for lower rates on all kinds of insurance and I found Erie still to be the lowest for me. I work with a local agent who is extremely polite and helpful and he is always there to answer any questions or needs. Recently we closed on our refinance and needed to furnish paperwork. While I couldn't easily get this from their website, I got what I needed quickly from my agent who was kind enough to personally deliver the documents at my house. I have referred a few of my friends to him and I don't have any complaints so far.
Ally is one of the few online banks offering a higher interest rate compared to others. They have a pretty good online website for managing your account online and I have not had any issues or complaints about using it. They offer pretty much all the conveniences you can expect from an online bank such as free online bill pay, phone check deposit, phone banking etc. They even reimburse you for ATM charges levied by the other banks out! And your money is FDIC insured, just like any other big bank out there such as Chase or PNC so if you are thinking about safety, I don't know if the other big banks are any safer than online banks and I don't see there is anything to lose, but everything to gain, including about 1% of interest on your balance!
We have had this business card for a few years now. Things we really liked about this card are: the bonus points we got upon sign up, first year membership free and the exceptional customer service and online account management tools from American Express. They also have plenty of great ways to redeem your points. In general, the value for each point equates to about a dollar - however, there are some things that seemed more expensive to redeem. For e.g. if you plan to exchange these points for Starwood SPG points it works about to about 3:1 - which I think is a bit too much. Also, we are not really happy that they have increased the annual fee this year to $175 - this is a good chunk if you are really small business owner and takes a good chunk out of the points you can potentially earn in an year.
