Philadelphia Police and Fire Credit Union offer great rates and friendly customer service. The only downside is that membership is limited to Police and Fire Department personnel and their families. They also do not have a lot of walk in locations but offer no fee ATM withdrawals with other credit unions in the area. Luckily Philadelphia has a large credit union with multiple ATM machines. Their rates are better than any large savings institution and they are very competitive with interest rates on loans. I joined this credit union for that reason alone.
Having already opened a checking account at TD Bank, I decided for convenience that I would open a Savings Account there as well. They have a multitude of locations in my area so it was beneficial to choose them for my bank. They required a low minimum and low balance to open the account and maintain it with no fees. That was a bonus as some other banks required a higher minimum to keep an account with them. They were also able to set up an automatic transfer from my checking to savings account to save money from each paycheck. Their convenience and easy website/phone application make keeping up with your balance a breeze.
I applied for a Citizens Bank Checking Account when they ran a promotion that came with a two hundred dollar bonus. It was easy to go online and apply and only required an initial deposit of twenty five dollars. They require that a monthly deposit of twenty dollars takes place to avoid any fees associated with the account. It is so easy to make a deposit, no slips to fill out and friendly staff to help using only your debit card.
Philadelphia Federal Credit Union made opening an account a breeze. I was looking into joining a credit union because I was unhappy with dealing with a large corporation for banking. I wanted something smaller and willing to give out more interest than these national organizations. It took minutes to fill out and get my account open. They also made it very easy when looking to apply for loans. I ultimately did not take the loan out with them because I got a ridiculously low rate somewhere else, but they were competitive in that area as well.
When I was in the process of buying my home, it was important to find an insurance company that I felt was fair and would be there in case of emergency. Calling around to different agencies, I found their prices unreasonable and their offers to insure my house for less than it’s worth unacceptable. Liberty Mutual was able to give me the coverage I needed at a competitive price. Aside from the occasional phone call attempting to bundle other services like automobile coverage, they’ve been great.
I made a purchase using a debit card which was tied into my checking account. When the salesperson ran the total through they added an extra five hundred dollars on by accident. I immediately called my bank and was told that it would take a few days to rectify. It was frustrating because they could see the seller canceled the transaction and that it was a large amount of money to take out of my account with nothing in return.
Great card if you can keep up with making monthly payments. Applied for this card during one of their sales promotions and received an extra 20 percent off of my sale. Offers a lot of coupons and additional sales on top of their promotions throughout the year. Easy to apply for in store, can be done at any cashier station. Being able to pay bills in person helps make transactions a breeze and keep the account current. Would recommend if you are located close to a Macys store and frequently shop there.
