No credit card needed
This isn't the worst of the low credit score cards I've had, but it definitely is not a quality card by any means. If I wasn't trying to rebuild my credit, I wouldn't even bother keeping it open. You can get so many better cards without fees, better interest rates and even cash back. On the other hand, I do get a tiny bit of cash back on gas and it has helped me to rebuild my credit, so I can't complain too much.
I love this card. I use the maximum each month then pay it off so I get the maximum number of miles possible. I've already bought 3 pane tickets with it and am working on saving up for a really big one in a year or so - this is especially complimented by the fact that there are no foreign transaction fees (my bank charges these fees and it's really annoying). Like someone else said, I do wish that you could redeem part of your points for discounts on airfare, but it's not a deal breaker for me. Otherwise, I love the card and would highly recommend it!
I work freelance and get paid through PayPal, so the prepaid PayPal card is awesome! I don't have to wait 3-5 days to transfer money from my PayPal account to my separate bank account - I have access to it directly and immediately. PayPal makes everything easy and hassle-free. I love how everything is done online and have never been somewhere that wouldn't/couldn't take Mastercard. I highly recommend it.
I don't actually shop at Victoria's Secret too often, I just wanted another card to help me build credit, but I now know that this was absolutely NOT the card to do that with. The interest rate is just ridiculous - 25%!!!!!. I feel so stupid for not checking before I applied. I do like how there's no annual fee, so I've kept it open and just put a coffee or two on it each month and be sure to pay it off. However, it has helped my credit score enough that I think I can get a better card somewhere else with a much better interest rate.
I really like Capital One as a company. Their customer service is always great and they did not even hesitate to help me when my card was stolen and the thief racked up almost $300 in charges in one day. They made everything so easy and I feel safe knowing I have this card. Above all else, though, the 1.5% cash back is WONDERFUL. I usually pay off my card each month so I literally get paid to use my card.
I love my Capital One online checking account!! They only charge a small amount of interest on overdrafts (instead of a flat fee of nearly $36 like other banks). It's much more reasonable. AND they have a great 0.75% interest rate on all their checking accounts. You apply online and can open the account in minutes. The only down side is that I don't know how to deposit cash since they don't have any physical banks to make deposits to, but I can live with it. Overall, I am VERY happy with it!
Predatory overdraft fees - some of the highest in the industry $36 per transaction and, to make it worse, they apply the highest purchases first, regardless of whether other smaller purchases were made first. This way, they eat up your balance faster and put you in the red faster. It used to happen a lot when I was in college and it terrible - always made things so much worse. I understand that managing my account is my responsibility, buy why would I, as a consumer, allow a company to profit off my mistakes. The only reason I stay is because I have a student account and I don't pay any checking account fees. I also have a CapitalOne360 account that is AMAZING!!! They only charge a small interest rate on overdrafts instead of a flat fee, which turns out to be only pennies. This is a much more reasonable and modern solution. The second I figure out how to make cash deposits to this online only account, I will HAPPILY drop US Bank.
