When my wife and I bought our first house, we had quite a few appliances to buy. This was a somewhat overwhelming expense at the time. Well, we went to Lowe’s and bought a refrigerator that was a floor model. So we received a big discount, around 30%, which was great. On top of that, we were able to open a Lowe’s credit card, so we received another 10% off. We really appreciated the extra discount, which was easy on our small budget. The card continues to offer 5% off big purchases, so I like having it for when we need another big item for our home. I haven’t had any problems with our card, and we are into always paying off the balance, so we don’t worry about the APR.
My wife and I are usually nervous about opening new credit cards; we want to be careful with our credit score and not to go into any debt. However, we decided a few years ago to open a Macy’s card to get a bonus discount. The card has been well worth getting, providing some special savings opportunities and no hassles. We have had no problems with the card at all. We enjoy getting special coupons in the mail from them as well. There is a high APR on this card, but we don’t mind because we always pay off our balance completely; as long as you do that, it’s worth the perks!
My wife and I have had a Kohl’s card for a couple of years now. We limit our use of credit cards, but we decided to get this card for the potential savings. It has been a great card for us, because we like the special perks we’ve received. I especially like getting coupons/Kohl’s cash in the mail; they make the card worth it. We always pay off the balance, so we don’t worry about the interest rate. It’s hard to see a reason not to use this card, since we frequently purchase our clothes and housewares at a local Kohl’s store. We haven’t experienced any downsides to having the card.
The Discover Card was my first experience using a credit card. My parents wanted me to learn how to use a credit card at an early age, and they wanted me to have access to funds in an emergency, so my mother gave me a Discover under her account when I was a teenager. At that age, the card was very easy to use and my mother was able to keep up with my usage with her monthly statement. She was also able to earn rewards, which was maybe only a small consolation prize given how much I spent! I liked that I was able to use the card almost anywhere, though there were maybe a few times it was not accepted--that became more rare over the years. The Discover was a great entry point for me into the world of credit, and I have since learned by using it how to manage my finances without any credit card debt!
My wife and I have used this credit card for close to seven years now. We started out with a low limit, but we weren’t too concerned about it. We always paid the balance, so we have not had to accrue interest or fees. I have appreciated how simple and practical this card has been for us without causing any issues. We recently came upon the expiration date, and we were automatically sent new cards without any hassle. There was also a time when we were sent new cards because there was a security risk; while I would rather not have any risk at all, I was happy that they were keeping watch and were cautious. We plan to keep using this card indefinitely!
