No credit card needed
I got this card to finally build my credit after I realized how far behind I was. I knew nothing about credit cards before this other than I really needed to get one to prepare me for the future. Unfortunately, I had to pay a deposit of 200 dollars, but that gave me a good credit limit. I was told my friends and family that a lot of credit cards have a monthly fee, but this one has no fee, which is great. There is a 29 dollar annual fee, but that's not a big deal at all. All in all, I'm glad I got this card. Also, there is a very generous grace period for those of you who sometimes just completely forget to pay bills, which is great. I haven't missed a payment yet and am excited to build my credit up as much as I can with this card.
After using store credit cards to help me establish a bit of credit, I then decided to apply for a secured credit card. This one was the best from the research I did. At first, I did not like the fact that I had to pay 300 dollars to use it, but that's just what you have to do to start building credit so you can qualify for unsecured credit cards. The good thing is that the 300 dollar security deposit was/is refundable. There is an annual fee of 39 dollars, but that isn't bad at all. 39 dollars is nothing in the grand scheme of things. This card did help me get my credit to an acceptable level and I did start getting unsecured credit card offers after a while. For those of you with bad credit or minimal credit, this is one of the best cards you can go with. I do highly recommend it.
I got the Best Buy credit card in an attempt to establish credit since I had none at the time. Store credit cards are a good way to do that. Since then, I have used over 20 times and have paid everything off on time. I haven't used it on anything huge like a washer or dryer since I still live at home, but I have used it on multiple video games, a desktop, and a laptop. The reward point system is GREAT. No one could complain about the extra 5 bucks for every 250 points, its just a great deal. There have been some discount offers, but I have never taken advantage of them. That is not saying the discount offers aren't good, its just I haven't really had a need for any of the items being offered at a discount. If you are a big electronics shopper or need to establish credit so you can qualify for a credit card, I would highly recommend the Best Buy credit card.
As a student with barely any credit history, it was very difficult to find a credit card that I could qualify for. Thankfully, I managed to find the BankAmericard. Being somewhat irresponsible at times, it would be easy for me to forget to check when a bill is due, but this card has a fixed due date which is very helpful. Also, considering I know little about how to build and maintain a good credit history, the Ultimate Money Skills is a very helpful feature to give me tips on how to be a responsible credit card owner. The late fee is quite steep, but I never plan on being late in the first place.
