Discover more card is the first credit card I got and I have been using it for 12 years. The customer service stuff is friendly and ready to work with you. Couple problems I have with the card were solved quickly and efficiently. Discover is not as widely accepted as Visa, but within US I never had problems. If you are using Sams Club (like I do), it helps to have one of Discover cards. It is accepted there and you can take up to $60 cash back with any purchase. This is a nice feature I am using occasionally when I need cash. The cash back bonus has several good properties, like you can subscript to 5% cash back on certain purchases, like orders at gas stations or in home improvement stores. You can claim it as check, credit to your account or as a gift card. Depending on the gift card, you can increase value several times. I often buy GAP card, the gives me +20%, but the possibilities are wide. The down side is that their cash back percent starts rather low and grows with every $1000 you spend (goes to initial low value once a year). You might get better value with a flat rate.
Hilton Credit Card looks like a good choice for traveler, especially if you stay in Hilton often. From the other side, it would be nice to know explicitly how much 1 point worse. The introductory deal is good. It comes with rather big purchase of $750, but in Hilton you probably spend it in one trip. The fees and APR look rather standard (the same or almost the same as British Airways Visa Signature Card, or Amazon.com Visa, or TrueEarnings Card). You have extra bonus for restaurants, gas stations and supermarkets, which is nice. No bonus points for airline tickets, so if you travel a lot and stay short times, you might consider some card with bonus miles in addition to or instead of Hilton Credit Card.
Direct Express MasterCard Prepaid Card looks like a very nice alternative to the check. You have basically no fees, except ATM transaction. You do not need to have certain monthly balance to avoid monthly fees (compare $2,500 per month for Account Now Gold Visa® Prepaid Card). There is no fee if you do not use it unlike ACE Elite™ Visa. There are no fees for transactions. Your ATM fee is only $0.9 and you get one free withdrawal for each deposit to your account (some charge you $2.5 per ATM transaction). Thus you can use it like a check without fees for cashing it. Unfortunately, Master Card is not accepted in some online stores, but might not even notice it depending on your shopping preferences.
I have been using this card for more than 10 years now. This is my main credit card. It is convenient, accepted almost everywhere. I could use it abroad without any problems. Amazon.com rewards points are nice and convenient. They improved reward system over the years and now you can use any amount of points you have towards your amazon.com purchase and do not need to collect certain amount and buy gift certificate. Points are easily converted into cash as well. I do my account management online. The website is convenient to use and easy to track your purchases and rewards. I had a problem with unauthorized transaction and it was solved fast, customer service was friendly, no expenses on my side.
